Another one?!

Darn.

hockey2315 08-02-2010 12:29 PM

UBS blood should really be banned from the breed. Now they'll ship this bum off to South Korea or Venezuela or somewhere to pollute another horse population.

Oh okay. Good to know.
What would his post time odds have been in his races next year?

Randall said it, "it's a disgrace".

Could someone please explain this? I looked at the Fasig Tipton catalogue for Saratoga for today and tomorrow. There are 7 UBS yearlings in the sale. I also looked at the sales results from the July 13 and 14 sale in Kentucky. Two of the three UBS yearlings sold. One sold for $160,000 and the other sold for $225,000.

I don't get it. Who in their right mind would pay that kind of money for those two horses? Why is there still a demand for UBS babies? Clearly if there is a demand they will still breed him and that's a really big shame.

Ask Rick Porter, he buys most of them.

The Indomitable DrugS 08-02-2010 08:26 PM

You only notice all the UBS horses that get hurt because he sires A LOT of very decent or better horses with very good speed.

Unbridled Danger is by UBS - and he's made 85 starts in his career - 16 so far this year and 24 last year.

He's tough as nails.

People only notice the huge list of unsound UBS's because he actually sires a lot of noticeable horses.

US is waaaaay down on that Stallion Durability List that BH publishes.

Only around ten or so starts per starter on average for that boy, iirc

Those stats can be highly misleading, especially for high-priced sires, as their fillies are often retired quickly if they show little racing aptitude.

You are 100% correct.

Some idiot on a racing forum years ago decided that UBS were "fragile" and were "ruining the breed". That fallacious opinion has taken on a life of it's own repeated here.

Sure...the people who pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for UBS's progeny are all" stupid" and just like to "waste money on fragile UBS racers".

UBS sires alot of fast, very good racers. Injuries are an occupational hazard for ALL thoroughbred race horses...UBS is no more "fragile" than any top sire who has been breeding for years.

I's like someone to present a valid statistic that proves UBS sires more fragile horses than other sires vis a vis his number of foals who raced and "broke down" vs other sires with comparable time breeding w/ same amount progeny who race.

That doesn't exist. All internet bs.

DrugsS is somewhat of an "expert" on the topic of race horses racing...so I agree with him...

You add nothing to the thread except what you think is a "clever" comment.

LOL, drugs is entitled to his opinion. I have watched enough horses over the past 15 years to know what I see in US progeny.

Agree with most of this BUT a lot of Graded UBS's seem to have short careers.. When you can name 2dz that won graded races and then got injured vs. a few that continued to have careers it does suggest he isnt the backbone of the breed. No doubting he can sire a fast horse on turf or dirt!

It makes you wonder which sire out there now is the backbone of the breed?

Unusual Heat was a drop down claimer who had stakes level ability - but a lot of issues .. and he's like the one a lot of people are starting to consider for the best blending of decent quality and decent durability in his offspring.

A lot of his offspring happened to have been trained by a guy who runs his horses like crazy and is more a fan of Lukas like spacing between starts than say the Frankel like spacing that has taken over. Also - a lot of his offspring are in California .. and it's not hard finding races for them because most handle both turf and syn very well and many are Cal breds which leave them with options in both Cal bred and open races. Many also handle any distance from 6f to 10f

exactly. if you want a fast horse he's one of the top few sires in the business.
