Horse Name
My racing partner and I are struggling to name our two year old colt. We've been rejected by the Jockey Club several times. His pedigree doesn't allow for a play on the stallion or dam and he is bred for the grass. Any suggestions?

Why don't you give us the pedigree? Some of us on here are clever!
Me though, I'd probably name the horse PG1985. Or, The Italian Monkey. |

Without the pedigree, just name him bred for grass.

The colt is by Kitten's Joy out of a Kingmambo mare. We refuse to use kitten or cat in the name. We tried for our next President, but Newt was declined since Knute is a current name. |

They won't approve Willie Nelson for sure, unless you get his permission. I wouldn't bother submitting. Kate Winslet gave hers. They didn't need it for Oprah Winney. Alter it a bit if you like it. Soundalike doesn't generally work, especially when it's so obvious with Will E. Nelson. I don't suggest Nelson's Willie. Sounds dirty ;)
Maybe Wiley Nelson. Sounds like he's being sneaky, but also a play on Willie's name. Not too close to be a problem. What's your mare's name? For something a little more typical playing with the names you get things like Joy's Prospect. Something with King and/or Country in it isn't out of place. Maybe Ode to Willie or Ode to Nelson. If you wanna slip a slightly naughty one in--Folked Up. "It's Folked Up on the rail..." If they aren't big on properly getting that syllable out, could be fun, esp. for Trevor Denman. |
