Underrated / Overrated

Okay we're at the halfway point of the year (oh shut up, I know what month it is :D).

The most underrated horse of the past 6 months was.....

The most overrated?

Fill in the blanks.

This is likely to turn into another one of "those" threads. The answer to the question(s) you ask depend on who is overrating or underrating any given horse.

Commentary aside Goldikova may be the most underrated (or underappreciated) and 85 in a 50 the most overrated.

The Indomitable DrugS 06-30-2010 11:54 PM

In order to be underrated or overrated ... one must have a set of some entities ratings to base their judgement on.

hockey2315 06-30-2010 11:56 PM

Blame is the most overrated.

He's logical ... but have you actually heard what people have been saying about Zenyatta?

The Indomitable DrugS 07-01-2010 12:13 AM

By the way ... of all the things posters and those in the press are notorious for sucking at the most ... it is how they go about forming their idiotic judgements on who they say is overrated and who they say is underrated.

There's a very simple method for doing this the correct way.

You look at each division as its own entity ... you isolate the divisions who are both strongest and weakest in terms of depth and quality in relation to years and years past within that same division.

To find the most overrated horse ... you're simply looking for the horse with the most impressive set of credentials earned without showing the expected quality of performance befitting of a horse with those credential and earned without facing the expected quality of opponet befitting a horse of its repute and credentials.

To the find the most underrated horse ... you're simply looking for an impressive horse without impressive credentials because they've faced historically strong divisional competition which has alllowed them to become overshaddowed.

Indian Charlie 07-01-2010 12:21 AM

Zenyatta is a clear winner for being the most overrated, since she is nowhere near the best filly or mare of all time.

Any argument made against this reasoning is simply proof of being retarded.

Indian Charlie 07-01-2010 12:23 AM

I was having trouble coming up with an underrated horse, and then it occurred to me, that MMSC was asking a trick question, since it's nearly impossible to underrate anyone currently running.

It's not easy picking a most underrated horse so far this year... but here's my pick.

You're talking about an Oklahoma bred racing in Canada that pretty much no one cares about ... he's beaten some pretty nice horses and run some very fast races .. especially for synthetic surfaces.

Wow, that's a pretty nice looking horse. However, now that you've outed him, PG1985 will become aware of this horse and proclaim him the greatest sprinter since Zensational, thus either making him the most overrated horse this year, or not making him the most overrated horse this year.

Either way, he's almost a certainty to win OK bred HOY 2010.

my miss storm cat 07-01-2010 02:22 AM

Not a trick question and very nice example with Hollywood Hit.

I feel bad naming my first overrated. I'm sorry Brockguy! I know you like this one a lot.

Presvis.
Was a very nice horse but lately?
9th at Ascot
5th at Sha Tin (QE II) Cup
5th at Kranji (SIA Cup)
11th in Dubai

Cavalryman.
Formerally with Fabre, now with Godolphin.
Prix Niel (G2) winner
Won Grand Prix De Paris (Group 1)
3rd in the Arc
5th in the Coronation Cup
12th Prince of Wales's
Down, down, down and it's a shame cause he could have been, well... it's too bad.

Underrated...

Typhoon Tracy.
4 G1 wins, 3 of which were this year and so many people have never heard this name. 10 wins from 14 starts total.

http://horseform.racingandsports.com...137B93D55E8D22

Spanish Moon.

Always neglected, always ignored, never talked about...
6, 3, 2 from 15 starts
Wins include Prix Foy (he beat Vision d'Etat)
Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Group 1)
2nd in the Hong Kong Vase
Nice horse who I think gets confused with Purple Moon (who is okaaay).

The Indomitable DrugS 07-01-2010 07:10 AM

Ice Box might have been a decent choice two days after the Derby ... but after the Belmont that goes out the window. Does anyone really still think he's anything?

I've always been amazed by how stupid people are with the simple concept of understanding what it means to be underrated and overrated.

Well, if you are going to talk about underrated horses from Hong Kong, there is this horse I'm really high on that's been running on the planet of Ork. Mindy's Pet.

He's only won 3 of 8 starts, but I feel once they stop running him over astro turf, he'll do much better.

If not for the big Z, Ice Box would have been a runaway winner of the overrated question. And that was before the Belmont.

That was for maybe like 2 days after the Derby. Obviously not before it. The horse he nipped in the FLA Derby photo goes today at CD on the turf.

Not for me. Now, maybe not since he lost, but after he won the Fla Derby, bleh.

The attention the two Zito horses were getting was unwarranted in my eyes.

The Indomitable DrugS 07-01-2010 08:00 AM

No one acted like his Fla Derby win was any sign of greatness. Devil May Care went faster same day and distance and all this years Florida Derby will ever be remembered for is Eskanderya's late defection because his owner didn't want too much time between his final Derby prep and the Derby.

In my eyes, even with all that, I thought he was overrated.

I understand what you are saying though.
