Affirmed or Spectacular Bid: Who was the better Horse?

Affirmed, he beat Spectacular Bid in the 1979 JCGC but was Affirmed the better horse?

Blood Horse doesn't think so. I wasn't alive back than and am curious to hear if you agree with Bloodhorse and why or why not?

i'd have to go with spectacular bid. a top four year old will beat a top three year old. the loss to affirmed was the last that the bid would ever suffer. he went undefeated at four, winning a rare walkover, and setting a still-standing world record for 10f. he was an amazing horse. and saying he's better (imo of course) takes nothing away from affirmed, who was one of the best ever.

Affirmed's career was better managed, but SB was the more talented racehorse.

Heck, The Bid was the greatest ever, even better than Secretariat, He was a Steel Grey running machine. Affirmed was great and so was Secretariat, but The Bid was The Greatest
