NYC OTB: Pressure mounts for Frucher dismissal

Gov eyes new OTB jockey
By FREDRIC U. DICKER, State Editor

ALBANY -- Gov. Paterson has lost confidence in Meyer "Sandy" Frucher's ability to run the bankrupt and embattled New York City Off-Track Betting Corp., and would "accept his resignation if offered," The Post has learned.

"Sandy has no credibility left in Albany. He doesn't know when to compromise, and he's lied repeatedly to the officials he has to deal with," said a source familiar with the situation. "Sandy has also done something that people never thought was possible: He's united the entire racing industry against him . . . If Sandy offered his resignation, it would be accepted."

The stinging comments came a day after Paterson revealed that he was backing a $17 million-plus emergency loan to the state-controlled New York Racing Association to keep the struggling thoroughbred-racing industry going. Frucher has been holding back millions of dollars in payments owed to the NYRA by the OTB, citing the agency's ongoing bankruptcy proceedings and cash-flow woes. The source said Frucher had been warned by aides to Paterson that his policies risked "destroying New York's racing industry," a charge already made by thoroughbred owners and breeders associations.

The ****ed up thing about this is that the 17 million dollars will be reported as a bail-out in the media and will cause an uproar.

How about instead of waiting for a resignation, the Gov issues him the two words we all want to hear...

Shouldn't there be an article about how much Sandy and the other big wigs at NYC OTB make so we can all be outraged even more. Seems like that is what was done to NYRA.

Get a load of this audit by selected Comptroller DiNapoli.
Between the hacks at OTB, the pols who we NY voters elected, and the Comptroller who was selected by Shelly Silver.... the 3 card monte game is in play.

Exactly... As outlined by Assemblyman Pretlow in his report to Shelly Silver, the executives and board at NYC OTB are receiving in excess of $12,000,000 in compensation.

DiNapoli is an idiot who was never qualified to be comptroller. He couldn't even win the Nassau County Executive primary even with the support of the Democratic party and was handed this job thanks to patronage. Have any of these morons figured out that there is no OTB if there is no racing?

The crux of the problem is that they are looking for solutions to continue the OTB system when they should be looking to eliminate it.

I agree with you 100 percent. You pose a good question but I have idea.

I don't know you live in NY but I do. I'm a home owner and pay quite a bit in taxes. While this topic concerns racing the rest of the state is a total quagmire. We see countless examples on how the main stream press misrepresents just about every issue when it comes to horse racing. While that is troubling but what is even more troubling is how the rest of the affairs of this state and government are not reported accurately.

How many executives does this POS outfit need? It would be funny but considering the state of racing in NY it's very sad.
