Gamblers and near-misses

In a related story, I hit 5 of 6 in the CD Pick Six on "Carryover Day". The horse who screwed me was my 4th choice in the race, but I only went two deep. I feel like I basically won. It was awesome....

I don't consier a near miss on a slot the same as winning. I look at it as a tease and stop playing.

Antitrust32 05-10-2010 12:26 PM

you only win if you get money back.

When the Phillies were up by 2 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th a couple weeks ago, and blew it and lost.. I did not think of that as "basically a win".

Though I could see near misses helping those people who missed put more money back into the pools later on.. so thats a good thing.

I think that Justin Dew was being facetious about it being a win.

He better be, 5 of 6 is pretty close to the worst feeling in gambling, even if 5 of 6 pays real good, the what if eats the hell out of you.

Same here hit 5 of 6 and lost leg 1 when my third choice hits and I am 2 deep. To add insult to injury Byk singles the horse. You would think I'd be smart enough to spend a bit more and promote him based on Steve's strong opinion...

No, the worst feeling in gambling is hitting the Pick 6 and losing money, which I did on Travers Day in 2006.

Oh my God.

This can only happen to Don't.

He's walking boxcars.

Um no, that is just unlucky and depression. I used to think the very same thing and then I realized not throwing the ticket in my back pocket to be put with the other losers was a good thing. This type crap just happens.

I have hit 5 of 6 probably 15 times in my life, and each and every time I felt like "You got to be shitting me"...

I liken it to trying to bang this hot chick, you finally get her in your ride, you are prepping the muscles for execution later in the night, you start making out with her, and then she puts the kabosh on you and says "You gotta wait till next time buddy"

I wish that on nobody

Can I get a definition on that please? I'm thinking that means unloading the gun before hand (aka Something about Mary), but I'm guessing young Tom means something else.

No, no unloading, I am actually talking about prepping thigh and calf muscles, the pushoff muscles.

The side of the neck and work your way up to behind the ear. That should moisten, i mean loosen things up

AeWingnut 05-10-2010 06:40 PM

if you get 5 of 6 and the one you didn't get was one you would have never got
that's ok
but if it is one of those times that you got stubborn and saved money
that hurts

hell, I have trouble getting 3 out of 3
but I never play a pick 3 if I can't get a price.

This guy me, Tector and DrugS knew on AOL, he was this fanatic Juddmonte/Frankel fan that played that combo all the time.

He played a p6 once that had a big c/o and left off a Judd/Frankel that was, I believe, the second choice.

He ended up going 5 for 6, with the lone loss being the Judd. Nobody hit the 6 that day and it would have paid something like 400k.

Classic.
