Newspapers

Since I was a kid I often go get the paper the Sunday after the Derby as a sort of souvenir. I'll sometimes do on it on the other races depending on the winner--doesn't always have to be a TC bid to collect a Belmont paper. The goal is to have a paper for each race of a Triple Crown win ultimately.

Anyway, the coverage in the local papers is shrinking and shrinking. I need to switch unless they've suddenly seen the light. Is USA Today the best option what with their color pictures and the actual coverage? Is there another one? I'm just trying to maximize enjoyment of what I buy on the day and what I have to look back on later. Thanks.

Suprisingly my local paper (Indy Star) had a front page picture and story and then a full page of articles. Most coverage I've seen in years. Maybe with the better purses here in Indiana there is more interest. It does seem to me that the live meets at Indiana Downs are getting better attendance too.

You can purchase the Lexington Herald-Leader Sunday paper post-Derby off their website, I believe. Best coverage IMO.

The other major papers just don't do it anymore (I too have a bunch of old Chicago Tribunes, with the sports front-page picture of the entire Derby field, their names in little boxes showing their finish order :tro:)
