Calvin Borel

GOAT? Maybe not, but dam.
How do they continue to let him ride the rail like this? You could make a living, A LIVING BETTING HIM AT CHURCHILL.

RockHardTen1985 05-01-2010 06:57 PM

Calvin just said he is winning the TRIPLE CROWN ON THIS HORSE.
What a legend.

2Hot4TV 05-01-2010 07:20 PM

Do you think Todd will give him some horses to ride in New York after Super Saver is done?

Todd was a smart man putting Calvin on his slop horse and Calvin did what he does every day. The only way Super Saver could of lost today was if Todd put Gomez in the saddle.

Haha. Not going to happen but that would be cool to see.

I didn't give this horse much consideration partly because I thought most were betting the jockey. Well, I'm fooled again. Good for him and Pletcher. I take my hat off to both of them. Calvin can ride this track.

and I'm getting a toupe

The years I've seen Calvin at TOGA, he has not done well - at all. Best race last year was RAITCH. Other than that, I think he only won one other race.

He better not dismiss Ice Box in the Preakness. That was one hell of a race for that horse. Problem is, it may have taken a lot out of him because he was checked so many times and probably ran a furlong more to get to the
2nd place finish. Nonetheless, a very game horse and a masterful ride by Jose.

I just heard Baffert say that Todd Pletcher needs to win a derby without Calvin Borel for it to count

I was thinking that

And he needs to win a Derby and not look like a douche for it to count.

earliest pick for next years derby--whoever Borel is riding is the obvious pick. Either hes the greatest jock when it comes to CD or everyone else is afraid to go near him or his horse or the rail in the races hes in.

It was fun seeing Lukas, Baffert, and Zito razzing him during that interview with Randy. I get how they can wish him the best and want him to keep that losing streak alive at the same time.

I think Pletcher will send more horses to CD now. Calvin at any other track, he is horrible but at CD he is king.

Calvin could easily win 2 more. If he gets 5 then there is absolutely no way you can't say he's one of the best jockeys of all time.

wonder if he has his agent book him at belmont for some rides, unlike last year?
he's seemingly a go to jock on big days. and it's not just churchill, he kicks butt at oaklawn as well.

It depends on Pletcher. You would think he'd throw a few Calvin's way this summer.

go calvin!

unfair criticism i feel. the horse may not be the same as she was, but the rider seems to be doing just fine. his gate to wire effort, and then the win with super saver...good for calvin.

actually, i don't think it's the horse. the owner has said he wants her to settle more early-yeah, cause that was such a bad tactic for her last year.

clambeau 05-01-2010 11:02 PM

what that field needed was Victor Espinoza !!

The guy is incredible at CD. I don't know how anybody can deny that. He wins at an absurd percentage on horses that have no business winning (like that rat in the CDH... which I would have never used if it wasn't Borel.) He gave a masterful ride in the Derby AGAIN on Super Saver, who obviously figured on form. Drugs put up a statistic on his ROI in route races there and it was bananas good. Seriously- the guy is the best rider in the history of Churchill Downs. I usually don't care who rides a horse but I ALWAYS make sure of who he's got there.
