3/21: Aqueduct ($135k C/O)

Entertaining and solid day of action Saturday, with intense Florida Derby Day slate the feature attraction. Ice Box ($43.40) capped several weeks of positive speculation after the promise flashed in the Fountain of Youth, but make no mistake about fortuitousness of result given luck associated with the major pace collapse and photographic result. Rule ran a monumentally courageous race in defeat and may be hard-pressed to repeat that try any time soon.

The Nick Zito trained winner combined with 6-1 Society's Chairman photo win over countrymate Rahy's Attorney in the Appleton to boost the successful .50 P4 return to $411. Solid opinions in New York and off and on action throughout Hallandale card before Ice Box explosion made the day largely successful, though P6/P4 Aqueduct whiffs and Magna 5 miss built a $400+ hole to dig out of. Hope you did well and enjoyed the really good day of racing! Aqueduct Double Carryover of $135k is the focus today, and follows Dee Tee's Kickin N Screamin in the Philly 3rd.

AQU 1st RACE CANCELLED; REMAINING CARD ANTICIPATED TO RUN

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The horses for Aqueduct’s 1st race on Sunday, March 21 did not arrive at the security barn by 8:00 a.m., the designated deadline, and as a result the 1st race has been cancelled. The horses for Aqueduct’s 2nd race did arrive, and NYRA anticipates the remaining card to be run as scheduled. Post time for Aqueduct’s 2nd race is 1:29 p.m. EDT.

Huh? What, were they up late watching B-ball or something?

nwaryas 03-21-2010 08:35 AM

Leaving #3 out of Race 6 will be a deadly sin.

I'm a Spencerific fan, but he is a horse you can only use underneath. You cannot play P6's or P4's using horses like him. I've happily included him many, many times for exotics, but there are always going to be Raffinators, Spicy Steves or similar that keep him as a career maiden type.

possibly the sprint x 14 to route angle? Big Gavel is going (don't know about the other half of the entry) and I think he's live here, but using 4 horses in this leg and can't find anything to like about the 3 to win - if he beats me, he beats me.

EDIT - Scratch 1A Eli's Comin Early

Dan,

He does look like he's ready for a good try on the sheets, but even a return to his best only hits the board unless 3 others fail to fire. And that's the story of his entire career.

Not to say he isn't useful. He's made $44k... because after all, NY breds start with an advantage. Does anyone here remember the great Pocahoba? Owned by my friends at Pont St. Stables and trained by Del Carroll, she broke her maiden in career start #33 having amassed, I believe, a bankroll of $130,000! She promptly got hurt in start #34 and had to be retired.

Don't leave #2 out of your P6 in race 4. This horse closes.

Agree Steve- it isn't uncommon at all to see these types with this sort of a record break through MSW in their 20th plus start - the state bred program there is great in that respect you eventually catch a soft field and as long as you hit the board you pay the bills... I wouldn't be surprised to see this one get through at the condition but he's up against it today, though can easily be a part of it underneath - I'm more concerned about the Rice horse off the layoff who I'm still on the fence about adding

So in two posts you've touted a horse who's coming off a wire-to-wire win as a closer and a 21 race maiden for a trainer who's 0 for his last 43 on the inner track.

Did you handicap the rest of the sequence?

I use FullCardReports.com. These sheets produce winners and IRS winners.

Rudeboyelvis 03-21-2010 11:08 AM

Gotcha - that explains it.

That was brutal. Needed to just cancel the play after Coney Island came out like that and focus on the P4.
