Anyone see the 11th at Tampa on 3/6?

Why was the 5 eased before the wire, giving up second place with about 75 yards before the wire?

That was our boy Centeno pulling his best Desormeaux. He absolutey quit riding once he realized he wasn't going to get past the winner, but I am sure he'll say he felt something wrong with the horse or something of that ilk. I can see putting the whip away, but he put a hammerlock on the horse once he put the whip away and didn't move his hands for the last 100yds or so.

It didn't affect my ticket (no vertical bets here), but there was a dude nearby flipping out. Go to calracing.com to see for yourself, the horse's name is Lacy's Tune.

For the record, it's plastic bottles, not cans.

I don't know if this is as obvious as it might appear. From the pan shot, it seems that he just stops riding. From the headon, it appears that the winner comes over enough to force Centeno to steady and for his horse to lose stride. It looks a lot worse in the headon as, from the pan, it appears that the winner is very clear when coming over. Yet, the slight hesitation by Centeno is enough to get his horse off stride and he's unable to get her back in gear. Maybe he doesn't try hard enough but it'd be hard to make this one stick, IMO.

It's not that he was unable to get her in gear, he didn't try to get her back in gear.

I see what you are saying about the head on. It looked very bad live, from where I was sitting.

At first I thought he just stopped riding because he knew he wasn't catching the winner and he had the horse coming on the outside beat. He just wasn't aware of the horse coming on the rail.

But after watching it a few times I really think that Centeno thought something was wrong with the horse. When he stopped riding the winner was clear of him, but he was still looking over his right shoulder almost like he was trying to get the horse out. He was clear where he was, but with the field coming behind him, it was alomst like he was trying to get out of harms way in case something was seriously wrong. I have no idea how the horse galloped out/ended up, but it just seemed like he was trying to get to the right for no reason, when it seemed like he was pretty much clear of any trouble. I did think that the head on made it seem like it was closer than it actually was.
