Am I mistaken ....
Or is the first actual two-turn dirt Grade 1 for fillies not until the Kentucky Oaks?
Rachel Alexandra never started in a Grade 1 until the Ky Oaks. Eight Belles never started in a Grade 1 until the Kentucky Derby. Meanwhile - IEAH's glorious champion Claimer Bound had competed in 6 Grade 1's before the Ky Oaks .. winning five of them. Tomorrow - Blind Suck will go heavily favored in her 6th straight Grade 1 race. If she pulls a Stardom Bound - and goes to the Ashland after her inevitable win tomorrow - that would be 7 Grade 1 starts before the Ky Oaks. These are what I believe to be all seven of the two-turn Grade 1 races for fillies leading into the Kentucky Oaks. * Oak Leaf (SA) * Alcibiades (Kee) * BC Juvenile Fillies (SA) * Hollywood Starlet (HP) * Las Virgenes (SA) * Santa Anita Oaks (SA) * Ashland (KEE) All seven are on synthetic. Unlike RA and EB - at least Proud Spell dipped her feet into synthetic Gr 1 company - she was a non-threatening 3rd in the Ashland a few weeks before crushing the KY Oaks field. |
When's the next two-turn Grade 1 for 3yo fillies after the Kentucky Oaks?
It's actually a new one because of a scheduling change. |
I don't know.

CCAO at Saratoga will now go at 9f, not 10f.

However, the point was that if you ignore Belmont you'll be hard pressed to find any two turn Grade 1s for 3yo fillies the entire year. |
I believe the only two Grade 1's run on dirt at all - leading into the Ky Oaks - are the Spinaway (7f) and Frizette (one turn mile)
The Del Mar Debutante is a Gr 1 at 7fs on synthetic. Are there any I'm forgetting? |
