This kind of bothers me.

This is probably just old age setting in, but I have a real problem with this. All these kids (adults if you are the type to rock NBA jerseys :zz: ) are going to want new Lebron jerseys with the #6 on it. So these kids (or most likely their parents) are going to shell out the cash for these jerseys which have a very good chance to be obsolete in a couple of months if Lebron should ditch Cleveland. Why can't he just wait until next season to make the change. I would have no problem with it then, because he will be in the first year of a long term deal. But this just seems like greed to me, camouflaged as a nice gesture to Mr. Jordan.
Maybe I'm wrong or just cranky this morning, but the NBA should do the right thing and not approve the switch till next season. But I seriously doubt that they will leave all that cash on the table especially when people are going to have to buy brand new #6 Lebron knicks jersey next season.

you are 100% correct... just doing it to sell more jersey's.. I'm sure the owners of the Cavs want it to happen so they will make more money of merch b4 King James dipsets.

Antitrust32 03-02-2010 09:37 AM

nevermind.. the change says it would start next season. no biggie then. He'll probably be with another team.

I saw that too, but I considered that the article meant that the Cavs fans hoped that he would still be in a Caviliers uni next season. When MJ changed his number from 45 back to 23 that was in the midst of the season (I believe it was going into the playoffs).
Like I said, if he wants to change it for next season, I have no problem with it. Obviously if he makes the change this season, thats where the problem lies with me.

On the scale of troubling issues this is ranked minus 18.

this doesn't bother me at all. if people buy a new jersey because of the change, that's their problem. i'm not concerned my ovie jersey has an 'a' instead of a 'c'.

Big deal A vs C, but if he was to change his number would it bother you?

I would be OK with that :D

Fair enough Dani.
But honestly, my son has a few jerseys (#30 Lundqvist #10 Gaborik plus a couple of other sports too) and if they got traded, that's part of the game. But to change numbers, would just annoy me (especially when it involves the arguably most popular player in sports). But that being said, the thing that really irks me (assuming the change goes through this season) is that he is a free agent after the season and may not even be back. That's the whole insult. Sucker all these people (mostly kids), into buying a new jersey and then guess what? Next season you might have to buy another one, this time one for a different team. I just look at it as the fans being taken advantage of, because all the players and leagues care about is the cash.

Chuck your right, this issue might even be lower than miunus 18. It is really a non issue, except if you are one of the people that have to cough up the cash for new jerseys for your kids (for the record my boys have no idea who Lebron is). Like I said, it's a bit of a rant, but for some reason it struck a nerve.

While I cant comment as a parent, who exactly is MAKING you buy the new jersey? Hell when I was a kid my mother bought us NFL jackets but instead of getting to pick the team we got stuck with whatever ones were on sale that fit us. I had a damn Houston Oilers jacket for 2 years till I 'accidentally' left it on the bus one day.

I don't like it when teams raise ticket prices after a bad season. I dont like paying full price for preseason games or being forced to buy WNBA tickets if you want good NBA tickets. I dont like it when teams give up on a season and mail it in after I already bought tickets. I dont like PSA's or $50 to park. I dont like $12 beers at the arena or stadium.

Jerseys? That is just good business if there are enough suckers to buy them

Doesn't that go hand in hand for the tickets, PSA's and $12 beers?

Not really because a lot of jerseys are sold to people who arent even fans of the team in question (fashion statement)and a jersey doesnt really effect your experience at a game (unless you are wearing an islanders jersey at the garden). The others do negatively.

For all the fans so involved in their teams.......you're living in their fantasy world, not vice versa!;)
