Will the eventual winner end up being the lowest weighted of all previous winners?

Not at all. In recent years Milwaukee Brew won with 115 and Martial Law and others with 113...

Hell, Noor beat Citation (132) in 1950 carrying 110. And Stagehand toted 100 (!) in 1938 when he beat Seabiscuit (130).

I'm currently reading Dorothy Ours' Man O' War book and finished a book on Saratoga, it's crazy how low the weights were for the lesser horses!

Loup Breton is the best turf horse in America, hands down IMO. I hope he handles this surface, if so he wins for fun.

If all of those horses try to enter ... St Trinians will be excluded. She doesn't own the tie breaker with Massone.

If I was Bob Baffert - if a probable or two doesn't defect - I'd also enter Richard's Kid and scratch just to keep her out. Baffert also has Misremembered.. and RK was assigned top weight of 121 and was nominated but is going to Dubai.

I've heard of them. Just don't think they are anything to be excited about
but I haven't been excited about anything

Watch the replay.... He ran huge to be that close, the pace was a crawl he made up a ton of groud. I would love to get to bet him over Gio Ponti in the big turf race on Belmont Day.

Who knows how Gio Ponti will fare going to Dubai and back but it's safe to say Loup Breton has a lot more to do on the turf to get into his league.

If Battle of Hastings runs well in the Kilroe on Saturday I think he'll beef up the turf division out west as well. Him finding a nose for the wire a bit will help his chances even more.

He cut the corner and had dead aim on a horse that was in a drive from midturn and couldn't pass him. Pace or otherwise he HUNG like a rat. He hasn't shown the ability to win in anything other than a favorable setup (i.e. a race that falls apart) to this point. Until he does, he's not a quality animal.

Then again: a high % trainer, a nice Beyer figure, and poor trip handicapping skills make for a healthy ROI.

I'd have to think that she'll make the field, not that I particularly like her. Her weight on scale is actually 115 or 116, so I'd have to think she would get into the race before all the males weighted at 114.

This is what I read in Santa Anita barn notes ....

Weights are due out Saturday. Total earnings in 2009-10 will be used in determining the preference of horses with equally assigned weights.
If they oversubscribe ... they actually go by females weight on scale instead of weight actually assigned?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they use the scale weight.

RolloTomasi 03-01-2010 03:08 PM

Feels like an upset on the horizon a la Mr. Purple or Milwaukee Brew (his first one).

Gonna look at Massone and Marsh Side if they go.
