Is there some reason?

Why the first race at AQU today is restricted to "grey or roan horses" ?

Linny 02-03-2010 11:04 AM

to be cute and get people like you talking about it.

pointman 02-03-2010 11:11 AM

I thought you were kidding. I would guess that they needed to find a creative way to fill a race.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-03-2010 11:20 AM

How has someone not yet named a horse Clayton Bigsby?

I guess there just aren't that many dark and blind race horses.

How would something like that show up in the PPs next out?

Gr/RNSHP?

That's neat. Grey horses are the coolest.

Do they still run The Gray Ghost Handicap at the Meadowlands?

There should be a symbol of some kind.

It was an incredibly weak race for the class level.

You've got an open Starter Alw with a 38K purse being won by a NY Bred who is slower speed figure wise than Freddy Mo's 5K condition claimer at Penn.

Unbridled Danger wasn't able to snap his impressive streak of 30 straight finishes out of the exacta.

Duvalier 02-03-2010 11:58 AM

Hcp 16000s is the way it will show up in the PPs.

Yep they still run the Grey Ghost Starter at the Meadowlands.

They used to have the same race at Calder on Extreme Day and called it the Gray Pride race

I believe the Arromanches S. is coming up . That is restricted to greys as well .

Note edit: This race is the Arromanches. A tribute to the beloved NY grey .

If they ain't running an "all black" horse race for equality I am calling Al Sharpton.

jrajf 02-03-2010 01:11 PM

unbridled danger..

I have been following this horse (thankfully not betting on him) since Contessa had him a few years ago. He is interesting because he runs for a trainer that only has him as his only horse. Together they have been able to "pay the rent" running over his head and collecting the (larger) small prizes at this condition. I follow just to see if and when this horse might drop to an appropriate level..Seems to be the quintessential "hobby horse"?

I was going to mention that Calder plowed this field long ago.

I guess I can sort of see doing it on something called extreme day - or doing it on Thanksgiving night like the Meadowlands ... today seemed like an odd time to run a White Power Starter Alw race.

Maybe they wrote the race just to help him out. If so - it was nice of them looking out for a little guy and that makes it a slightly less silly idea.

Perhaps they can write a race restricted to horses foaled in the state of NY who are also inelidgible to ever be NY Breds. I'll take Freddy Mo in a walkover.

Left Bank 02-03-2010 01:50 PM

Churchill does an all grey race on Halloween.

Kasept 02-03-2010 02:03 PM

Calder has run them too.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-03-2010 02:42 PM

It now seems pretty obvious that this race was written specifically and only to help out the owner/trainer of Unbridled Danger.

It's not like that guy hasn't done some favors for the racing sec. - he ran him 24 times last year - and already 4 this year.

Unbridled Danger has now missed the exacta in 31 straight races.

Today was his 51th start for owner/trainer Robert Young. In those 51 races, he was never a shorter price than 6/1. Today he was 3/1 on the ML and went off at 4/1 because the conditions of the race made it as easy as humanely possible for him.

Have to credit the racing secretary for cleverly and sneakily finding a way to give the guy his best shot.
