It was never gonna work!

Obama already accepting the premise that he'll be a one term president.
It is a shame(for the country) that his deeds didn't match his rhetoric.
Can he re-invent himself tonite?......which base of supporters can be counted on? Shakey ground, methinks!

The Washington Times is nothing if not the Glenn Beck of newspapers, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but just out of curiosity, could someone explain this line in the editorial to me:

"The most striking slump occurred with the white middle class, which bears the brunt of Mr. Obama's wildly irresponsible fiscal policies."

My question is - Which of Obama's "fiscal policies" negatively affect the "white middle class" specifically?

Glenn Beck's speech about liberty and limited government brought a happy tear to my eye this morning at 2am.

The historian in me is far more offended by Glenn Beck than the left-wing liberal in me.
I just hope that people don't actually listen to this uneducated nimrod screw up nealry everything he says about the history of the United States. Teaching the college kids of today is difficult enough without them entering the university with a bunch of misinformation they "learned" from Glenn Beck.

Yeah, but the left-winged liberal in you defines how you think, thereby allowing the decades of leftist bilge that have saturated our textbooks and misinformed our kids.

Well, no, Obama has clearly not accepted the premise he'll be a one-term President at all, if you watched the interview.

And the current polls indicate great support for him personally as President in his personal likability and trust.

Timm .... outside of TimmWorld, there are many people that think Obama is doing a fine job with the multiple disasters he inherited his first day in office.

Yes, there are people who agree with you, and hate the President as much as you do, and want him to fail as much as you do, and I'm sure that makes you feel better to have compadres in your opinion. Hey, you're entitled.

But outside of TimmWorld, and FauxNews, there is another whole country, who likes the President, who is hoping he continues to do well, who supports him, who will vote for him again against any other candidate in 2012, and who is hoping for Joe Wilson and Andre Bauer of South Caroline to succeed from the Union and stop embarrassing the non-stupid adults.

Its clear that you should head to Hollywood for that carreer change to screenplay writer. The stuff you extrapolate on the tidbits of soundbites is really amazing. Obama said previously to ABC news that " he'd rather be an awesome one term Preseident than an average two term President. THAT'S A QUOTE.

I do not hate Obama...I just saw before the populace that he didn't have the skill and maturity, and worldview necessary for success in these troubled times. There was no way for him to accomplish these goals...with or without a strong and cohesive Democratic Party. He relinquished the leadership to Reid and Pelosi and continued to campaign for another year. He's like a "one minute manager" type.
The current polls show him lagging severely in contrast to starting numbers.

Your smarmy comments about wanting Obama to fail are so sophomoric that it boggles my mind. You belong on DU not DT. You libs want to ride on Obamas' waning popularity to pass all this terrible legislation, without taking into consideration what it will do to the US for decades. Myopic, for sure. The other half of the voters are going away that easy, period!

miraja2 01-27-2010 03:23 PM

Do you honestly read that quote as meaning that Obama has "accepted" that he will be a one-term president? I truly have no idea how in the world a person could possibly draw that particular conclusion from that particular statement.

I watched the whole interview, didn't listen to soundbites (or just what one columnist wrote, as you did).

And in the context of the conversation, no, Obama has not "accepted he's a one term President".

Even going by the exact quote you list, he's not, "accepted he's a one term President". That's not what that quote says at all :zz:

So what? For nearly all Presidents, the greatest, highest polling numbers they have is the day after they are elected :)

Obama's personal likeability is just as high among Democrats as it was the day he was elected. It has fallen like a rock among Republicans, and fallen about halfway with Independents.

So you want Obama to succeed? Gosh, I couldn't tell that from your daily posts bashing and insulting him - so sorry ;)

By the way, I'm still not "a liberal". Sorry.

And yes, I most definitely want healthcare reform. That's why I crossed the aisle to vote for Obama. Not the Senate version, the House version with a public option (what the CBO has said will aggressively help us reduce the deficit over the next 10 years). And I want it done via reconciliation, to get rid of the GOP complete blockage, and get good, aggressive reforms in there.

And why do you assume there exists an "the other half of the voters" that don't like Obama? The poll numbers don't show that at all, it shows his support at over 50% today. And it takes alot less than that to win the Presidency.

And as somebody else pointed out, the Republicans have the current lowest polling numbers of either Obama independently or the Democrats, and they have to figure out some Presidential candidate to run against Obama. And now is when those candidates usually start positioning themselves for a Presidential run - where is the GOP today? Confused, in Hawaii at a conference, trying to push through a "GOP Purity Pledge"

Poll numbers, obviously, change daily, weekly depending upon what is happening. Tomorrow, after the State of the Union tonight, they should be through the roof.

LOL, its pretty funny, outside of you, and maybe GBBOB, I dont know one person who thinks Obama is doing a fine job. And that opinion is shared to me by mostly democrats, young people, white, black and hispanic. The rhetoric I get is "He's no different than Bush". And its basically true except he's Bush on Steriods.

Well, that's your personal circle of friends. Here in the heart of central Kentucky Mitch McConnell Republicanism, the most common opinion I run into is that Obama is the Kenyan Muslim Communist Negro AntiChrist who has ruined our country forever.

But that's why polls encompassing the entire country are better reflective of how Americans feel.

I don't like alot of what Obama does, but I do support him, I do like alot of what he has done and plans to do, and I can't imagine the financial nightmare we and the world would be in with McCain in charge.

He's continuing in the grand Clintonian custom of "floating it out there to see what happens!"

ITS NOT BASED on McCAIN....its ZERO'S problem...and he'll continue to bail and let his undercronies to the dirtywork while he handles the Statesman part of the Presidency....yeah right!

I wish he was more like Clinton. But Clinton had one good thing going for him that Obama does not, a Republican led Congress.

I get it - you can't stand this President, and you prefer to insult him and call him names. Other people think completely opposite of you. So goes the world.

The public most usually does like the opposite party in control of Congress and the Senate to serve as a check to the Presidential Party. That is what makes the upcoming 2010's so interesting politically, to see if the opposite party can indeed regain the House and Senate as history shows the electorate usually chooses.

I think Obama could be okay with a Republican congress.

I'm sure he's as frustrated with Pelosi & company as we all are (republicans and democrats together).

A Republican congress would keep him in check with the amount of money being spent.. and I would hope the Republican congress would work with the President on some of his reasonable idea's.

It worked out okay with Clinton.. Though Bush & Dem led congress was a disaster. Bush with Republican congress was a disaster. So far Obama with Dem Congress has been a disaster.

I want Obama to do well.. I want this COUNTRY to do well.. I just dont agree with most of President Obama's idea's and plans. If he gets a R Congress and moves more to the center, I'll be much happier.

It's only to balance the abject adoration that you and others and the MSM have for this guy.

The most popular news network, as often bragged about by Hannity and Bill O'Reilly, is Fox News. They are the definition of "mainstream media" :D

hi_im_god 01-27-2010 04:20 PM

i'd rather make infrequent but sensible posts than constantly spam politics/society with nonsense.
