Dubai Carnival Contest III

Might as well start it up seeing as the Carnival starts this Thursday.

Roll of Honour
2009 - No Chance To Dance
2008 - Jairpeo

Ive changed the format slightly from last year.

- 2 selections per race, plus alternates

- $30 win on the first horse, $10 win on the second and a $5 exacta box on the 2 selected horses.

- Mark your best bet of the day (Nap) and that horse's stake is doubled

- All returns settled at UK Industry Odds and only the thoroughbred races count!!

- Like last year, Super Thursday points will be doubled and World Cup Night points trebled.

- The person with the highest return over the period wins and dont worry if you miss a week or two, ye are all welcome - we got 12 playing last year so hopefully we will get a few more this year. Thats the plan.

The following are Carnival dates:
28 Jan
4 Feb
5 Feb
11 Feb
18 Feb
19 Feb
25 Feb
4 Mar (Super Thursday)
5 Mar
27 Mar (World Cup Night)

Ill try to post useful links for the Carnival. The most obvious ones would be www.dubairacenight.com (great website run by member Pat Cummings) and www.dubairacingclub.com

If anyone else has queries, questions, abuse for me etc etc, just let me know.

NoChanceToDance 01-24-2010 12:46 PM

I was thinking about this and whether you were going to run it again this year. Brilliant news.

I'm heading back to Oz sometime in Feb, but hopefully I'll be able to post selections each week.

Hope we get some more 'punters' involved this year, it's been good fun these last two years.

Winners could be difficult to find on the first meeting, with it being a new track, new surface etc etc. As far as betting goes, I think I'll be leaving it as a watching brief.

chucklestheclown 01-24-2010 01:17 PM

I'll certainly try to participate. Do you have to pick the full card every day?

You don't HAVE to pick the full card, but the competition is for every race, so by not picking in each race you would lose out on the chance in making profit.

The carnvial runs each Thursday (although they sometimes will race on a Tuesday, too), but it's only usually once a week from this coming Thursday through until Mid March.

YOU FORGET www.emiratesracing.com :)

All the meetings are Thursday/ Friday this year. I'm in...of course...

I'll have video analysis up on DubaiRaceNight.com as well which will give some added insight.

Sounds kinky. :p

The handicapper at the track assigns a numerical rating in an attempt to give the public an idea how this horse's form stacks up against others on the grounds, it's essentially a "handicap" weight similar to what you might see for 3YO on the Derby Trail....but for EVERY horse.

Some of the ratings are good, others are higher than I think they should be. Sometimes, one good performance in a quality race bloats your rating and its difficult to get it back down.

Midshipman is rated 113 while My Indy, winner of two legs of the Maktoum Challenge last year, is at 115. Halicarnassus, who freakishly won a turf race and was nowhere to be found (just about) before that or since then, is a 110. It's an attempt to judge the form for you so you don't level all the different form - all that being said, it's subjective and often up for debate.

Yeah but look what he can do. :p

"Halicarnassus is Halicarnassus, there are no secrets with him. He's been around the world and is as sound and fit as ever. He'll take in similar handicaps as he did last year with the long term target being the mile and a half Group Two on Super Thursday. He trains himself these days - he even books his flights himself online!" - Mick Channon

My question / suggestion for Brock is this... should there be a selections thread as well as a chit chat thread for the people who are gonna make cheerleaderesque comments (you think Hali is bad? Wait till Youmzain gets over there! :{>: ) or is it easy enough for you to sort through the chatter? :D

Glad you're playing Gamblin4evah and you too Chuckles!

Jaripeo dear are you playing the first week or waiting?

chucklestheclown 01-26-2010 12:09 PM

When do the picks have to be in? Is first post about 22 hours from now like the DRC website says?

NoChanceToDance 01-26-2010 12:55 PM

mmsc, I'll still play in the first couple of weeks, but I won't be parting with my hard earned cash (unless the Brazilian filly goes in the 1,000 guineas trial on Thurs ;) )

Someone mentioned about ratings. I find they very inconsisent over there and there are some countries including Australia, and the South American countries where they seem to be marked down for no particular reason, giving those horses an advantage.

Dear MMST:
Since the first day of course I will playing.

I read something about the rating over there.

By the way, there is no more handicapping that the one you make for your on. If you dont know how to read the footnote jut dont cry for thinking about others tastes.

I didn't see that De Kock filly lurking in there.......... she is very good, and I'm not sure the Brazilian filly is running.

chucklestheclown 01-27-2010 05:59 AM

Not very scientific but I'll take Dettori's mount as my first horse in each race unless otherwise noted and my second choices are:
2nd-Raihana (NAP)-alt-Absolute Music
3rd-no Dettori-Proponent over Lizard's Desire-alt-King of Rome
4th-Noisy Silence-alt-Mulaquat
5th-No Dettori-Axiom over Rileys-alt-Good Control
6th-Art of War over (Whsipering Gallery) Detorri's mount-alt-With Interest
7th-My Indy over Frankie on Midshipman-alt-Gloria
8th-Sirocco Breeze (alternate nap) over Warsaw-alt-Green Coast (seems stylish)

I need to crush this "Bart" fellow so I'm editing in alternates, my nap (what does that stand for?), etc.

NoChanceToDance 01-27-2010 02:00 PM

We're not including the Pure Bred Arabian, are we? If we are I can add that a bit later on.....

R2 - Raihana (alt; Waasemah). Talenta (alt; Muntherah)

R3 - Tartan Gigha (NAP) (alt; Proponent). Lizard's Desire (alt; Good Again)

R4 - Bab Al Salam (alt; Drunken Sailor). Petrovsky (alt; Alcomo)

R5 - Aichi (alt; Desuetude). Star Crowned (alt; Prohibit)

R6 - Whispering Gallery (alt; Sopranist). Red Rock Canyon (alt; Art Of War)

R7 - My Indy (alt; Premio Loco). Forgotten Voice (alt; Otaared)

R8 - Sirocco Breeze (alt; Warsaw). Leahurst (alt; Jaasoos)

Good luck all, I have a feeling this first meeting could be tough. We'll know much more afterwards.

brockguy 01-27-2010 02:06 PM

Nope, just the throughbred races - so your picks are fine - except pick your NAP - same to you Chuckles..

PatCummings 01-27-2010 02:59 PM

2nd - Waasemah, Muntherah (ALT Talenta)
3rd - Good Again, Tartan Gigha (ALT Emerald Wilderness)
4th - Drunken Sailor, Bab Al Salam (ALT Petrovsky)
5th - Star Crowned, Rileyskeepingfaith (ALT Good Control)
6th - Khor Dubai, Whispering Gallery (ALT Art of War)
7th - Midshipman, My Indy (ALT Gloria De Campeao)
8th - Sirocco Breeze NAP, Green Coast (ALT Jaasoos)
