How Does This Happen At Calder.....Redboard Alert

12/14/09 CRC 2 $3 Win 10 ------ $147.60
12/14/09 CRC 2 $20 Win 3,10 ------ $492.00
12/14/09 CRC 2 $10 Exacta 3,10 (Box) ------$1,828.50

Sometimes return far exceeds expectation....I was just doing a little paper work when I glanced at the old ADW to see a Mdn Clm Turf going off in 10 minutes....sometimes lucky is better than smart.

At the risk of getting justifiably hammered for RB behavior it amazes me how a David Fawkes Calder first time turf can go off 48-1 when the guy, no stranger to Calder, has a positive ROI in so many categories. Boxing the #3 for the exacta was taking a low cost shot on the dam being 2 for 2 with offspring turf winners per YouBet's stat thing.

The return on this impulse bet was ridiculous. Hope somebody else got a piece of this one.

I crushed it too:

12/14/09 CRC 2 $300 Win 10 ------ $14,760.00

Congrats to us!

All kidding aside - nice hit.

Looking at the race now for the first time, I'm just as shocked as you were by that horse's odds considering that no horse in the race had previous turf form.

Good catch.

Thanks guys. I think day of the week play's a role in size of payoff occasionally. If that's a typical Md Claim turf route Saturday race there are far too many savy players to get that kind of return. Even the ole blind squirrel finds the occasional acorn.
