The better horses are pointing to the Santa Anita meet and alot of the cheaper stock have been moved to cheaper tracks containing slot machines to take advantage of the inflated purses.

Still, there is no good excuse. It's very sad.

arizonadave 12-13-2009 04:00 PM

They need to stop running on Wednesdays.

2Hot4TV 12-13-2009 04:28 PM

Alot have left for better purse money and dirt.

California racing really needs help. Casino gaming and state lotto gaming has killed horse racing and if they dont get some help we are looking at the future. 5 and 6 horse races.

It will be the same at Santa Anita for the winter meet.

they are not leaving for dirt, that is a crock....Oneill did not leave to Philly to get on dirt....its all about money

if SA had 25k bottom level purses they would be just as filled up, if 50k claimers had around 50k purse they would have 10 horse fields.

Also it costs way more to run horses in socal, it is very expensive and most of the "money" has been driven out of the state.

Seems like it's been a tough time of year for a while. Didn't Pedroza win the jock title at this meet a few years back? I think the Pro Ride at Anita is also a factor (tiring surface...they want to give them a break before that long meet.) Also, HWD PARK has gotten to be pretty depressing looking. I can be there in about 10 minutes, but it is not an uplifting environment. It would seem to be beneath a lot of people. BTW..If Hit Da Brix WINS THE LAST, then a Free $20 bet goes to the out of work ex-drunk in Ohio.

SCUDSBROTHER 12-13-2009 06:33 PM

Worked..G DAMN.....It's like J.C. himself was smoking that chalk up front for me. What a set up. Decarchy kids be loving a hot set up.

Right they love the syntheics, thats why Dutrow, Pletcher, Rice and others kept thier barns in So Cal. Baffert and others have sent good horses away because of the surface. It all adds up to 5 horse races.

At the bare minimum they need to cancel Wed and possibly Thursdays.

randallscott35 12-13-2009 06:42 PM

Just run on Saturdays. Big fields.

SCUDSBROTHER 12-13-2009 06:50 PM

O.K....2 min to post....Put the $20 play here. It's not live until I confirm I played it.

Hey, I had

1) a jock ride really hard for me

2) a race shape go exactly my way

I'm giving all the credit to giving that dude the free bet. Last I heard, he was having a tough time.

Synthetics 10%, the cost versus profit 90%...how are the fields at Kee by the way?

They should just cancel the state IMO...that state needs major legislative change.

I dont think people understand how precarious the situation is for racing in socal, it would not be good for any state if california racing goes down.

Stickhorse 12-13-2009 10:30 PM

Overreaction

Lots of needless drama in this thread

Barns are giving there stock a rest before the Santa Anita meet.

When I started following racing in the late 70's there was no December racing and Oak Tree finished up after the first week in November.

This will all be forgotten the day after Christmas.
