Yikes!

Well, to be fair, they knew there would be stretches this meet where the box would be lean. Martin Panza had those great Turf Festival/Thanksgiving cards, and is likely more focused on the last couple of big weekends. Today is a really fun group of races and though the fields aren't stacked, Thurs/Fri races aren't bad with pretty well-matched groups of 7-8. There's just 9-10 days left to the meet.

To add insult to injury, they are expecting rain on Saturday (one more reason they can't fill) and O'Neil has already said there is no way that Lava Man will go in the Native Diver if the track is off.

On the bright side, expecting 77 degrees and sunny for opening day at Tampa ;)

They should get rid of wednesday (possibly thursday too) racing altogther.

Is the Native Diver turf? Cause I dont think poly is allowed to be "off"?

randallscott35 12-10-2009 07:43 AM

Hollywood park is not poly or Cushion track anymore, they have been adding sand and dirt for the last 2 years.

good for them! NO wonder most people like that track the most of the Cali tracks. (as far as track condition I mean)

Looks like they were able to get it together. There's an article on the Native Diver, with 6 entrants (3 courtesy of Doug O'Neill), on the Blood-Horse website.

59 horses on a 9 race program with one MTO. Does anyone have a s.hittier job right now than Martin Panza?
