Jara back in NY without much fan fare

Was suppose to make his comeback yesterday but didnt get in, has one mount today and one mount Sunday. Im not on the inside there in NY so is there any buzz around the track about him there or any trainers that are thinking of using him?
Heres a little tidbit too, his agent is newcomer Jose Santos

I would use Jackie Davis before him, at least the horse gets a 5 lbs. weight break. Doubt he will stay on this circuit long.

i don't know he could do fine especially this time of year in ny. a new agent will help. i forget the story but isn't that what got him in trouble? he hired his father or some family member to be his agent and the person was a pain in the a$$. maybe i'm wrong but i think thats why he left??????

I thought that what got him in trouble was his inability to ride well.

WHen's Arroyo coming back?

MisterB 12-04-2009 02:37 PM

And Calvin Borail couldn't get a mount in NY, ;)

I thought Jara rode OK in Chicago during the Arlington meet. I'd bet on him.

I think he left NY because he thought he was hot **** and he thought he was gonna go to SoCal and be a big fish, but that didn't happen. The dude was first call for the best barn he could ride for in NY and he left. He's an idiot!

Anyone could win on Invasor and Bernardini. He got lucky with getting those mounts and like the above poster said, made the mistake in leaving.

Actually, that's not what happened. It was more the other way around.

Jara's problems begain when he left Randy Romero as his agent and went with Gatewood Bell, who was definitely over his head. Bell had no experience as an agent and did no favors for Jara in the way he treated trainers and handled his business. Jara also developed bad habits in the mornings and afternoons that everyone at the track took notice of. By time Jara left Bell, there was much damage doneto his business and his work ethic that could not be repaired in New York. Jara went to California and got injured, went home to Panama to recover from a broken collarbone and surprisingly did not return to US to ride when he recovered. No official explanation on why but there are various rumors that it wasn't Jara's choice that he didn't return to the US quickly. There were times Jara was scheduled to return to US, once when Jose Amy was going to take his book for Belmont in spring 2008, but he never showed up. So when you burn people more than once, why give him any fanfare until he is seen on the grounds and riding. Plus, in the latest Aqueduct condition book, there are 35 journeymen listed as well as 12 bugs (now there are only 3 bugs are actively riding at Aqueduct) so why promote someone like Jara when there are others working hard already on the grounds. Plus, if you recall, Jara rode last winter in Dubai, so lets make sure he is staying at Aqueduct all winter instead of using the next few weeks to getting riding shape and return to Dubai.

If I recall correctly, he didn't finish out the Arlington meet either. Thought I heard something about him leaving and going back home again.

eajinabi 12-05-2009 06:24 PM

He rode in Dubai as a regular rider there last year.

Very accurate and factual response. My only addition is that he was leading rider in Dubai in the last meeting. He definately has his work cut out for him but he now has an agent who can also mentor him and one who he trusts. He can make a mistake here and there but is a very strong rider in the stretch with great hands.
