Sports Illustrated article about Rachel Alexandra's connections

A rebellious, free-spending owner, a lightning-rod trainer and a homespun jockey helped turn undefeated filly Rachel Alexandra into the talk of the track in 2009

Great article...

Thanks, that was a great read. I can't think of a thing he didn't cover thoroughly and well. You feel like you're actually standing there watching Rachel.

Definitely painted some good pictures, easy to see Rachel dragging her handler 50 feet and stopping only when she wanted to.

Well he's a gentleman. ;) She probably said "does this saddle make me look fat?" and being no fool, he answered as any man should.

A well written article indeed. Anyone know if the article actually made it into the magazine, or was it on-line only?

It's in the magazine.

it was very good. if i had to pick on anything its the fact he calls it a "synthetic" track controversy. jess jackson is right its not a controversy at all. anyone that knows anything about racing can see horses run differently on it. i just wish for once people would admit that the whole poly thing was a mistake. hes right this sport is fighting for its life and the poly tracks are not helping any.

It's in the December 7th issue. The one with Derek Jeter on the cover, so… bonus! For me, anyway. ;) There are a lot of nice pictures accompanying the article (I just wish someone had wiped the goop from her eye in the first one).

Thanks, I'll have to pick one up.
