Gomez

I believe that was him that went down hard in the last at Hollywood. That looked pretty ugly. I hope horse and rider come out ok.

TVG indicated that the filly (Bonnie Blue Eyes) was put down. She was going to win before going down. Gomez was extremely lucky that he was well clear of the other horses when he went down. TVG said he went off in an ambulance and they were looking at his arm/shoulder/elbow. Really hope he is okay. Makes you wonder if the top rider should be riding on a 8 to 1 morning line horse in a Maiden Claimer that is the last race of the day.

Yep. Bonnie Brown Eyes looked like a winner about 70 yards from the finish line and then just went down out of nowhere. Hope both are OK.

Consequently, the 11 horse won, paying off $112,000 in the PK 6. If Bonnie Brown Eyes had finished, it would have been a carryover. I'm sure the person holding that ticket felt strange after the race was over.

Thanks for the update, in nyc I only got to see the race live, no replays. That sucks about the horse, hope Gomez is ok, looked like he went down pretty hard, but he was lucky to be clear.

I am pretty sure that he will get over it.

Seriously, the way Gomez fell off looked pretty bad. I really hope he takes the rest of the meet off.

I didn't mean that the winner of the pk 6 felt bad for the horse. I meant that it was some stroke of luck that the winning horse collapses 60 yards in front of the finish line, giving them $112,000. That's some twist of fate.

If his arm/shoulder is broken then it looks like they need to find a sub.

arizonadave 11-21-2009 11:36 PM

thought i heard he was released from the hospital with just soreness. the horse didnt survive.

chucklestheclown 11-22-2009 12:09 AM

Just reading a description of what happened was brutal. RIP.

Off mounts today per Bloodhorse. X-rays were negative. Sounds like he'll be back in time to ride Ventura in the Matriarch (I think he also has the mount on Cowboy Cal in the Citation).

Great news that he is okay and was able to roll underneath the rail before the trailing horses came through after the breakdown.

Very sharp post. Or at least BIG SHOT announcers should have a backup to call it.

I think Cowboy Cal will be below 8-1.....so I guess he should take the mount?
Lets just hope that it isn't the LAST RACE.;)

Vic -- Your call of that race showed what a great announcer you are and the emotion you can add to a race. You clearly showed that the outcome of the race was secondary to the fact that a horse and rider went down. I am just glad that Garrett is okay and am looking forward to his participation in a great stakes weekend at Hollywood.

The last race at Santa Anita and Hollywood is typically a maiden claimer and one of the better betting races of the day.
