MSW Purse Structure

Wondering why in New York and other major tracks MSW races have such high purses, upwards of $60,000 in some cases. Why couldn't that be spread around to other condition races? The maidens have to run in order to move into other categories so why not have the MSW purses lower?

Think about it.. It costs 25k a year to keep a horse in training.. running for 7k in a Mdn race is insane.. Basically unless the money was completely and I mean completely irrelavant who would take a shot buying a horse?

The reasoning is that it gives owners a better chance at recouping part of their investment. It is especially meaningful in states like Louisiana that have a minimum number of statebred maiden races per card.
