No BC for Rail Trip, Gitano Hernando

Feet problems.

ARCADIA, Calif. - A bruised foot will keep top California hope Rail Trip from starting in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 7.

World Cup main goal.

Gitano Hernando, the upset winner of the Goodwood Stakes earlier this month, will bypass the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 7 at Santa Anita's Oak Tree meeting and instead be pointed to next year's Dubai World Cup, Barry Irwin, the head of co-owner Team Valor International, announced on Tuesday.

It is 2 bad for those who were going to bet Bafferts horse. I hate this speed being out. This hurts Zenyatta a bit as well.

Don't tell me you're really thinking about betting Richard's Kid?

I plan on using him in my yearly super bet for 2nd/3rd/4th.....He is 'my' horse this year.

Tiago was the horse I used in the same situation last year, except I didn't use the Euros....

If Tiago goes in the Classic, I'll be using him too, can't wait to see the reactions to that :)

Richards Kid is in my top 4... He might crack into my pick 3 and 4 by then.

Using crazy horses is part of what make's the BC the BC. People get fixated on year-long efforts when its how the horse is holding-up for one more effort which means more, in my opinion.

Oh, I'm all about using interesting horses at a price...in fact, and I'm perfectly willing to take all the flak in the world, I plan to bet Gio Ponti in the Classic and Criticism for a piece in the F/M Turf.

I just scoffed at Richard's Kid because I feel like his day passed and while he capitalized on it, I can't see him repeating it. For 3rd or 4th, sure, he's possible, the list of horses who've run 3rd and/or 4th in the BC Classic over the years is not too sparkling.

From who? PETA?

I loved how his connections lambasted the Del Mar surface, saying he, among others, couldn't train on it.

Conveniently they glossed over how he couldn't train over a dirt surface nearby, either.

I think you are fine with your horse racing opinion (obviously most people pick more losers than winners.. its just how the game works)

Its just the sports bets where you are a complete mush.. and I appreciate that, thanks!

Gitano Hernando, 3, had raced just six times prior to the Goodwood, shipped over from Great Britain for the race, and was facing Grade 1 company for the first time. Irwin said that running in the Breeders' Cup following such an ambitious schedule would "compromise his future."

"The colt just ran too hard last time and we don't feel comfortable bringing him back in a month," Irwin said. "We feel that he is a prime candidate for the World Cup in Dubai next spring and that the risk to the colt by running him back at such a high level next time is too great."
