Zensational and Zenyatta pictures
I was lucky enough to be out in San Diego the first week in August and stayed over for the weekend to soak up some of the beautiful Del Mar experience. It is really a beautiful facility. I was hoping to find Rick Hammerle and introduce myself but it was chaos at the track Saturday and Sunday. Maybe next time when the two big superstars from the west coast aren't running.
On Saturday Zenyatta was schooling in the paddock. She is one impressive looking horse. There is a picture with another horse in the adjacent saddling stall and Zenyatta looks like a draft horse next to the horse in the other stall. The paddock area at Del Mar seems to be THE place to see and be seen. It looks like one big party in the paddock. I can only imagine how Kickin N Screamin would freak out with such a crowd!! The paddock area was well attended for Zensational's race but nothing compared to Zenyatta's race the next day. Zenyatta is quite the ham. She struts into the paddock, stops stock still and then looks at all of us poor people on the outside of the paddock. The crowd gives her a big round of applause and off she goes in her fancy dressage style strut around the ring. She glares at her opponents and looks like she is intimidating them before the race. Maybe she is doing the horse equivalent of trash talking. Anyway, it was a great day of racing. Naturally, I took some pictures. Really great shots SuffolkGirl.
She really is something to behold. I remember seeing her do this striking out thing with her front legs in the paddock as well as on the track.. Did you see her do that? Pretty funny to see. |

she does it all the time. |
Nice pics! When the "SmithSmiling" pic was followed by the "SmithZen" pic, I tried to see what Buddhist quality you were seeing in Smith's face.
I finally realized the Zen was for Zenyatta. ;>) --Dunbar |
No pictures of the "Cougar" contest???

I just spent this last weekend down at Del Mar and had the opportunity to see Zenyatta work and then stopped by the barn to see her cool down and get a bath. I got a lot of great photos of her and will post them later. She is definitely a ham, she stops and poses when she sees the camera and will turn her head so you can get a different angle. She has such an amazing personality, there's no doubt she knows that she's a star!
p.s. Nice photo Suffolk! |
