Fabulous Strike

I believe the record for fastest Thoro-Graph sheet figure ever run is a negative 7 by Midnight Lute.

Ghostzapper has a pair of negative 6.50's.

Looking at today's Vosburgh ... there's a slight chance Fabulous Strike has a shot to reach that kind of number on what was a very tricky day to make figs.

2nd place finisher Go Go Shoot ran a negative 5 on TG the last time he made an early lead like he did today - and that was two starts back.

3rd place finisher Kodiak Cowboy ran a negative 5 on TG in his last start. And ran a career top of negative 5.50 at Saratoga last year.

Fabulous Strike gave 8lbs (1.92 lengths on TG) and a path of ground on the turn (1 length on TG) to Go Go Shoot - and he beat him by 1 length.

Fabulous Strike gave 3lbs (0.72 lengths) and even ground to Kodiak Cowboy and beat him by 2.25 lengths

So, his sheet figure will reflect him running 3.92 lengths faster than Go Go Shoot and 2.97 lengths faster than Kodiak Cowboy.

He also ran an eye popping 2.01 seconds (29 Beyer points) faster than Game Face did in victory in the Grade 2 Honorable Miss 30 mintues prior.

His lifetime best TG figure was a negative 6 earned at Mountaineer during his 3-year-old season.

Nice to see him still running big races now as a 6-year-old. I consider him the second most exciting horse in the sport today.. and you won't see him in the BC either.

This is a shame. Imagine a BC Turf Sprint, on that downhill course, with

1) FS
2) Commentator (get one more out of him)
3) Ventura

and any number of others (both dirt and turf types) both U.S. and Euro's.

THIS would be an exciting race and if a horse were to WIRE it (highly unlikely), it would be the epitome of FAST.

This is the kind of race that should be happening. FAST is not exclusive to DIRT.

elusive heat ran a huge race today too.

Indian Charlie 08-09-2009 10:55 PM

Oh, and i dont think it was the vosburgh today dude.

The Indomitable DrugS 08-09-2009 10:58 PM

Yeah, Vanderbilt I meant. My brain got all scrambled from trying to project the numbers.

The track was much quicker earlier in the day... but yeah, she ran well.

How many lengths does this make him better than a Champion sprinter like lit de Justice or Artax?
These TG's/ Sheets are

Sure was tough to make figs after they sealed and harrowed the track after the initial dirt races resulting in a very different surface, but regardless FS was brilliant again. One of the cooler, consistently fast horses of the last couple years.

Considering they went 2 full seconds faster than Game Face, who was coming off a -4 at Calder, it's within the realm of possibility that they go lower than a -7.

They will have to split out the later races from the Elusive Heat race, though.

The second half of yesterday's card has got to be a figure-maker's nightmare. I'm usually skeptical of split variants, but yesterday's track seemed to change by the hour. I don't know what to do with the times under these circumstances (I believe I read they were hand-timed due to equipment malfunction), but the fractions for the Honorable Miss make absolutely no sense.

Keep in mind Chuck that those negative numbers were at Hawthorne, Appoint would go negative at Hawthorne

Here is what Jerry Brown had to say on his board....

And ran two seconds faster than Game Face. Good thing there was moisture involved, I get to do anything I want with the figure. Otherwise FS would get a neg 7 or better.
Looks like Midnight Lute's all-time record of negative 7 is safe for now.
