Potential to be a really deep contest if Monterey Jazz doesn't have it easily.

Now way the rider of Thorn Song takes back, not his style. Now whats interesting is when Monterey Jazz got outfooted early at Santa Anita he chucked it, could happen.

Handicapping whether a rider takes back or not is a precarious position to take if you ask me, for me it's not if M Jazz gets an easy lead but rather if he is pressured on the turn, he's opened up 5-6 lengths on the turn in his previous races and essentially the race was over from that point on, if Thorn Song can make him work on the turn then I like Whatsthescript today, he's due to run a good today as Sadler horses seem to mysteriously perk up at Delmar.

of course, but you can have some faith in certain rider, Gomez taking back, Dominguez and Borel inside, and Smith taking a grass speed horse out to the lead, now maybe MJ is absolutely gunned, he is the faster speed horse of the two, but he better be really good to win at 9f today.

Glad Thorn Song did not cause any accidents. Zayat must be looking like an ass right now.

I don't think the trainer change is the reason he bolted. Horses don't hold grudges....Thankfully no one was hurt. How does MJazz go off at 1-1? Wow.

Not so much that MJ went of 1:1, which was ridiculous; but who in the field was a square price? Did you want 5:2 on the 8? 14:1 on the winner? 21:1 on Baffert's horse, 1st time turf?

How does anyone bet this race?

Buckpasser 07-25-2009 07:57 PM

Del Mar Pick Six will either light up the sky, or there will be an incredible carryover. Huge prices on 3 of the first 4 races

Oh I agree. I didn't bet the race, but how could he be even money. Made no sense. Opened at 1-2. Somebody has money to donate.

Mitchell made some eqp changes that Romans never implemented because thorn song has the tendancy to do that in the morning.

CSC 07-25-2009 08:11 PM

Whatever happened it changed the dynamics of the race, you know like I said earlier, never read too much in Trainer comments, TS went to the lead and MJ took back, it was supposed to be the other way around. Who knows how the race would have turned out had TS not bolted, strangest thing I have seen in a grade 1 in awhile.

Buckpasser 07-25-2009 08:32 PM

PICK SIX: There are ticket(s) alive on the 10 and 14 horses and either one will pay over $300,000, otherwise there will be another a HUGE carryover tomorrow.

UPDATE: #14 won; no carryover

It seemed after TS bolted, Baze hurried his horse to extend his lead from Global Hunter which was a mistake in Baze's part.

It was reported on TVG that Mitchell changed the type of blinkers so that Thorn Song would see more of the horses behind him. Whatever it did, Thorn Song didn't look comfortable coming out of the chute and past the stands as he was tossing his head around.

Thorn Song had been in the lead in much faster races recently. Nice fancy blinker trick by mitchell.
