Exactly. Can they really not fill a MSW for 2YOs?

I thought it was bad when I heard the Oceanside only drew enough for one division. I have a feeling this is going to be a very uninspiring meet.

Still a better betting meet than anything NYRA is offering.

I'm at the point where I'm betting turf at ELP, RD, EVD and IND these days. The turf tradition at BEL is over.

no they cant, they have not run many at HP now that the 5f cheapos are done...they ran 1 in the first two weeks last year.

There are very very few top horses out there right now, it would be easy pickens if you had some nice horses to bring in.

Fats-

We see a lot of things the same way, but Dmr is nowhere near Saratoga. I don't care if they have Trakus, head-on replays, guaranteed wager pools, or anything else. The racing at Dmr is nothing like Saratoga at all.

Del Mar is not running on Monday's this year. I would suspect their field size should improve as a result.

The exotic player's VIAGRA: large fields.

First time since 1988 they haven't run the Oceanside in divisions.

It was even more troubling that Tom Robbins said in the article in DRF that he tried to get four turf races on the opening day card and only has one.

That's terrible. So Cal racing should take a few weeks off in between the end of HOL and the beginning Del Mar. They just don't have the horses to justify the dates they run.

They should take a few years off

The is a direct correlation between field size and handle. Individual interests may vary, and certainly a 12 horse, 5 furlong sprint of firsters won't handle a 12 horse turf claimer, but generally speaking fields are $ in racetrack land.

Get rid of poly. Get rid of cushion. Get rid of pro-ride.

That's the single biggest thing killing racing there.

I didn't look at the PPs, but just bet Mark S and hope for the best.:)

And you can make this statement because....the great Paulo Lobo left the state?

Seriously, everyone that ran there three years ago is still there, and it could be argued that there have been many more horses shipping in than before the plastic stuff.

California is a failing economic state, where making money and spending it on god forbid horses is not the most commendable deed. Racing is just caught up in a bigger game, of course they do their best to contribute to their own demise.

CSC 07-21-2009 11:00 AM

I took a glance at the Oceanside, usually it is split up into 2 divisions. 1 division you'd think this would be a good field. NOPE. Nadda...
