Nicanor Scratched, out of Virginia Derby

Quote:

Nicanor, the full brother to Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Barbaro, has has been scratched from the Virginia Derby (gr. IIT) on Saturday because of a leg injury.

Trainer Michael Matz says Nicanor injured his left hind leg during a gallop the other day. The injury became evident when the horse worked out Thursday in Maryland.
I guess those hoping to get a good price on Battle of Hastings are out of luck.

He was definitely a play against so it really does mess the odds up of the race.

this race just went from a huge betting deal to changing back into colonialturfcuppartdeux

Saves face all around; for the connections, as well as his many supporters. I'm sure they can find another race soon where he'll be ONLY speed and let him do his thing.

He'll never race a race that he can lose!

My favorite part? "Pay only when you are ready." Excellent. I'll just claim I'm too emotionally unavailable for PayPal and other forms of financial compensation. Mommy dearest: "No more wire transfers! Ever!"

well had I known that the Nicanorheads, The Church of Kent D., and other misguided fans would make Hold Me Back the heavy favorite, I would have not crumpled up the PPs when I heard the Nicanor News.

The $51 exacta wasn't so much the issue for me. Battle of Hastings was the clear highest probability winner. The others that deserved to be in a 5 horse box - Straight Story, Lime Rickey and grudgingly Florentino and El Crespo(just for the fact that these last two could have benefited from different hypothetical pace scenarios).
Even with the 3 horse box 25.50 isn't a day maker.

BUT 3.60 HASTINGS WTF!!1:zz: i would have hammered that if Nicanor was IN.

*slams head Chris Farely style* "aaagghhhh Sonofabeeee!!!":D
