Jms62 vs. Hockey2315 Stakes Contest

Here's what I propose:

- $2 Win/Place wagers on all U.S. graded stakes races that occur on Saturdays, Grade 1 races that occur on ANY day of the week in the U.S. and Canada, and ALL Breeders' Cup races. The contest races for a given week must be listed and established prior to posting picks so that there is no confusion (i.e. somebody might miss an obscure G3 at an obscure track otherwise). The contestant with the most profit (or smallest loss) through the Breeders' Cup Classic is the winner.

- Turf races moved to the main track will not be counted.

- Each contestant will be responsible for keeping track of his own score, but should monitor his opponents' score for potential errors/cheating. Each contestant must post his totals at the conclusion of each week's races.

Stakes negotiable. Use of a middle man or alternating between who has to post first each week is also up for debate. Not sure what to do about scratches. Other suggestions for how to tweak the rules are welcome.

lets not hide this gem in here, and can the rest of us wager on the outcome?

..by the way what happened to Dahoss?

Both you guys are on the ball and usually know who is scratching out of what races. I think that if you make a selection and he/she scratches out before the start of the card and you don't alter the pick then you are just out of luck. But if it the scratch should happen after the card starts (i.e. at the gate), then that race is null and void.
Also if the BC is the finale of this contest, those picks should be Pm'd and posted by a third party. This way NEITHER side has an advantage.
Good Luck to both of you.

The problem is that gate scratches don't show up differently on charts than early scratches.

How about a main pick and an one and only one alternate to be used if the main pick scratches. I think whomever is the leader should post their picks first(by noon raceday). We don't want another situation where the leader simply picks the same horses as we saw in our prior contest. Even with this format I can forsee many instances when the picks will be the same. Good Luck... Should be fun

Hossy taking an Intenet leave of absence/sabbatical...

As I've stated many times, I generally don't care for these throw-downs, and no one has to 'leave the Internet forever' as far as the administration here goes towards the result. But, the occasional Thunderdome seems to always generate some laughs. Please keep this civil...

I still think there's a potentially exploitable flaw with someone posting their picks first each week, but I guess there's no better way. The alternate thing for scratches will probably be extra work, but once again I guess we don't have a choice. The King Edward doesn't qualify under the conditions I originally listed, but I guess we can add all graded stakes in Canada too if you really want. Are we going to have a prize/something at stake? Personally I'd rather put up my future first born child than have to leave my beloved Derby Trail.

ello elle.

As I said.. No one has to leave anywhere. I'd prefer $100 wagers in these contests with proceed to TRF or ReRun or Anna House or racing charity of winner's choice.

hockey2315 06-22-2009 12:46 PM

Sounds good to me. . .

Sorry I didn't review your qualifications closely... I'm ok with ditching the King Edward... No need for anyone to leave town... Since I see you are in your early 20's stakes maybe a bit harder to come by. We can play for honor or take Steve up on his idea of a donation to an Equine charity...

A moderate sized bet isn't a problem for me at all, but I kind of like Steve's idea. . . keeps it more civil and I plan on betting most of these races anyways. Whatever you want. . .

jms62 06-23-2009 05:10 AM

Ok Then per Steve's recommendation 100 bucks to the charity of the winners choice. Last Digit of the dow close this Thursday has the option of posting last week 1 (you 1-5 me 6-0). Person posting 1st has to have their picks in by noon (would agree to 10.00 penalty against contest earnings for failing to do this).. Good Luck.

The loser should also have to "wear" the humiliating avatar of the winner's choice for 60 days after the contest ends.

Civility and $100 donations are nice, but I was there on Father's Day. Things were said. Reputations were damaged. Abilities were called into question. I saw one man remove his glove and slap another man across the face with it, demanding satisfaction.

If two men enter Thunderdome, only one should walk out unsullied.

OK... OK... Just trying to spice things up for the rest of us. Why should you guys get to have all the fun? I thought the true purpose of these pissing contests was for the mob to have a good laugh.

And please don't call me "Mr. ambassador of good will," you of the mini-freakout and subsequent namecalling that got you onto the chopping block in the first place.

But all jokes and arrow slinging aside, I will be following along with your contest with interest. I think things like this are fun. I don't think there's any harm in a little friendly competition. It will sure beat the "happy birthday" threads and "so-and-so's my favorite horse because" debates.

May the best (or at least hottest) handicapper win!
