Help KEEP's Petition Drive and Legislative Campaign

Time for Action

The Kentucky Equine Education Project (KEEP) sent the following message today regarding legislation to be taken up during the special session beginning Monday. You are urged to add your voice in support of Kentucky's prized signature industry.

Right now is one of the most critical times in our industry. It is crunch time. We learned last week that the Governor has added our issue to the Special Session.

The session begins on Monday, June 15th.

Here is how you can help the horse industry right now:

1st - Sign our online petition supporting the addition of Video Lottery Terminals at Kentucky's racetracks. We will be collecting signatures until the session begins this Monday.

PETITION LINK:

2nd - If a KY resident, call and e-mail your legislators. They need to hear from the horse industry RIGHT NOW. If you have called in the past, GREAT. Call again! Senators and Representatives both need to hear our united voice LOUD and CLEAR!

3rd - Visit the KEEP website for information on how to contact your legislator and how to sign the online petition.

4th - Tell EVERYONE you know to also do Steps 1 and 2. We need ALL of Kentucky to support this industry.

There has never been a time like right now in Kentucky!

I highly doubt it gets by the bible thumpers in the Senate. I love the Senate president's suggestion- a 10% surcharge on Lottery tickets (so you lose 60% of your money instead of 50%) and a 1.5% surcharge on out of state wagers on KY racing. LOL, the first time the Kentucky Derby has split payoffs is the last time anyone out of state wagers on Churchill Downs, therefore the resulting impact is surely negative. That's intelligent!

How about just building regular casinos and getting business back from Horseshoe and Argosy and Belleterra.

Surcharges are very common bro. Arlington hits for 2.5% when they are not the 'host' track, all winning wagers on out of state tracks get that 2.5% hit.

That's wagers placed AT Arlington on out of state races (NYCOTB does the same thing, yes) but this is wagers from out of state placed on Churchill Downs or Keeneland. Wouldn't you as an Illinois resident think twice about betting on CD or Keeneland with this surcharge (which now will be 4% factoring in the additional Arlington take?)

The only way to get vlt's in the state is to kill all of the Baptists.
