This year's 3 year olds based in CA

Worst 3 year old California based horses ever? Only Pioneer of the Nile is somewhat decent.

Sightseek 06-06-2009 07:03 PM

By decent do you mean only slightly overrated?

Well I didn't think his 2nd in the Derby was that bad. But yeah even he is overrated.

you do realize that the two most talented colts, the pamplemousse and i want revenge suffered likely career ending injuries?

Until they tear up and throw out those garbage surfaces they run on, nobody can take their form seriously. Is Nancy Pelosi the head of the CTOA?

DaTruth 06-06-2009 08:01 PM

Papa Clem isn't bad.

probably only the top turf horses will go to the BC along with the cal and woodbine horses and some of the turfers will run on the fake stuff.Havent rachels conections expressed a disfavor about running her in th BC because of the DIRTLESS nature of the track?

cal horses are the best, just ask john White

The 3YOs based in Florida and New York were not so hot either.

Let's see Derby win & place horse:New Mexico & California
Preakness win & place horse: Arkansas & New Mexico
Belmont win & place horse: Arkansas & Florida

This might just start a trend.

I can see a fight for stalls in New Mexico and Arkansas next winter.

You could qualify that statement by saying that the winners of the Fla Derby and Wood Memorial ran in exactly 0 Triple Crown races. The 2-3 finishers in the Fla Derby and Wood Memorial were West Side Bernie, Just a Coincidence, Dunkirk, and Theregoesjojo. Dunkirk's 2nd place finish in the Belmont among that quartet's three combined Triple Crown starts is pretty good.

This Triple Crown series said little about the quality of racing in NY or Fla except that it sucked beyond the best horse in each of those locations.

These arguments get so old

Who won the Acorn yesterday, Belmonts top 3 year old filly race?

King Glorious 06-07-2009 12:16 PM

And I think Colonel John won the Travers. Rags to Riches won the Belmont. I don't know that you should completely throw out the form of California horses.

This year, Papa Clem shipped out and ran second in the LA Derby and won the Arkansas Derby. I Want Revenge shipped out and won the Gotham and Wood.

blackthroatedwind 06-07-2009 12:21 PM

Isn't it more than reasonable to assume that there are some very talented horses in California who's abilities are being completely daunted by synthetic surfaces ( like I Want Revenge was )?

Why do people care where good horses are supposedly from ( Pioneer of the Nile is as much an East Coast horse as I Want Revenge was a West Coast horse )? This is a mythical, and non-existant, rivalry. A good horse is a good horse.....wherever it races.

Rags to Riches, for whatever it's worth ( which is nothing ), is an East Coast horse that happened to spend a winter in California.

Just another example of how misguided the whole notion is.

I would also say there are average dirt horses moving up out west, and good dirt horses who move down out west. I would also say its visa versa as well going east.

There also is a 10/1 horse population difference, its pretty hard to comparisons when its like two different divisions, kinda like big school and small school sports, you might get some nice kids from the small schools but the sheer numbers will also give the bigger schools the comparative advantage.
