Great story!

Putz!! Married 7 times. Very lucky that Ted Turner gave him a break on his start up network.

eajinabi 05-19-2009 05:27 PM

Did they have Trifectas in te 70's??

Nonetheless the story sounds fake.

Speak for yourself.

The next time I wish that I'm flat broke, in hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt, except for the money I'm carrying with me to the track...and betting it all on permutations around a 70-1 filly overlaid against the boys at Calder...well, that would be the first time.

This belongs in the same category of "2 Mins to Post" claiming he has a few thousand dollars and wants to try betting the races to turn a profit but wants suggestions on what type of wagers to make.

Some people can be both stupid and lucky. Congrats to Larry for proving it.

PatCummings 05-19-2009 06:45 PM

Just a random Google search seems to indicate that the trifecta wager was first introduced in 1971.

MISTERGEE 05-19-2009 08:16 PM

i bet alot of people in south florida would have loved to have seen him after the race and beaten the crap out of him so he would have paid back all the people he owed money to and or screwed and never made good on even after he got to the point where he says winning $8000 now doesnt mean crap to him. its a nice story but i wish it would have happened to someone who deserved it

SCUDSBROTHER 05-19-2009 09:22 PM

He's still checking ball scores during station breaks of his show. Fact is he's just another addictive personality that's figured out how to whore himself out every night on that show. The person being interviewed knows Larry is gunna kiss up. He doesn't have a real personality on that show, and he probably doesn't at home. If you have that many marriages, you're trying to buy something, or somebody. People realize that, and want out of situations like that.

7? He better try one of them quasi-whores from Russia or Asia. Seems like a better fit.

I didn't google but I'm pretty sure Charles Town had superfectas in the early 60's.

Larry King is famous for exagerating details of any of his stories or just plain lying. Reference his bragging that Sandy Koufax was a boyhood friend. Outright lie.

I love when Stern goes off on him especially about this

Oaklawnfan 05-20-2009 01:30 PM

Colin Cowherd told this story on his show this morning on ESPN Radio. He went into great detail about the wagers. If this is an urban legend it's making the rounds.

MISTERGEE 05-20-2009 02:34 PM

he actually meant sandi koufax not sandy koufax. sandi is a bus driver in brooklyn

arlington park was the first track to offer trifecta wagering and that was in 1971. Apparently Calder jumped on the bandwagon soon as that was the same year Larry King hit his big trifecta at Calder

jballscalls 05-20-2009 02:53 PM

Here is a great article that states Larry King is full of it in his story.

http://deadspin.com/5262750/shocker-...-full-of-holes

says the horse wasnt even foaled until 1972 and lots of other funny stuff

eajinabi 05-20-2009 06:00 PM

My other question is if you got that much debt, alimony to pay, no money to pay rent then why in the hell would you VALET park your car at the track????????
