5/18: Woodbine (Victoria Day)

Belmont P6 and P4 proved too tricky for me Sunday, but winners brought home $42k for the sextet and $372 ($1) for the Quad. Victoria Day in Canada featuring the Gr. III Vigil, so the late P4 looks like fun.

WOODBINE

8th: 54th Vigil (Gr. III), 4+, 7f (P3, Super)

Fascinating race with 6 of the Jacques Cartier runners returning including top 4 which were within a length of each other at the wire. Tough not to look at new faces including familiar Rebellion (2nd, Commonwealth) and Passager (2nd, Maker's Mark Mile)...

Most Likely: #11 Rebellion 5-2 5th
Best Value: #10 Timely Advice 8-1 3rd
Next Best: #4 Passager 6-1 4th

Next Best: #5 Lady Shakespeare 7-2 WON
Super Add: #1 Alachua 4-1 7th

10th: MSW-(R), F&M-3+, 6f (Super)

Bizarre bunch of Ontario breds, many off layoffs; Likely best to single the Moose in the P4, but take value shots to protect yourself if live to the nightcap...

Most Likely: #5 A Moose in Love 3-1 5th
Best Value: #4 Alesbury 20-1 3rd
Next Best: #6 Maybe I Can 15-1 7th
Super Add: #8 Megavella 20-1 8th

<$75 P4 Play:

7: 2-7-11
8: 4-5-7-9-10-11
9: 1-2-5-6
10: 5

3x6x4x1 = $72

Good luck!

I agree The Vigil is a very fascinating race.

$1 super box ($360) of Steve's choices in the Vigil turns almost $27k... kaboom! :$:

Super effort in the pick four so far Steve. Time to hedge? I wonder if Sunflower Drive might be the danger?

atolunch 05-18-2009 05:13 PM

The Exacta box in the 8th paid $1,300 for $60 bet!!

Wow, another tremendous day of capping. Thanks as always Steve, let's keep it rolling!!:tro:

Thx all... Thought we might have pulled a rabbit out of the hat at Woodbine yesterday. Had ZERO confidence in the nightcap favorite though and wasn't surprised or disappointed that he failed. But there was no way to catch a $40 horse in the sequence without spreading mostly and narrowing somewhere. Will definitely keep an eye on Toronto as their P4/P3 mutuels have been outstanding the last couple years with the purse-fueled full fields.

Super call on Field Commission with the rail skimming ride by Pizzaro, thought Rebellion got a bad ride with Prado.

Well, I hardly had him near the top, but at least saw how jumbled a picture the race presented.

Honestly, the winner of the last was tough to have at 6-1. Yeah it was Casse/Melnyk/Husbands, but would you really want a year layoff who had shown only moderate talent, who had been training OK but with some breaks in there? Sounds like a money-losing proposition to me. The 5 just missed the break badly and had to rush up, and had little chance after that. Thought it was the right single in the sequence.
