Ahmed Zayat

On "Race Day America" he is making it sound like everyone is trying to keep RA out of the race. Said he got a call from MTB connections! Girlfriend cleaning the house so couldn't hear very well over the vac. Did anyone else hear/see this?

Sending mixed signals quite clearly:

“I am a very competitive guy by nature, and I would love to beat her, so now I can come and if he wins, my colt would have beaten the Oaks winner and the Derby winner,” said Zayat, the owner and breeder of the CashCall Futurity (G1) and Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner. “That would automatically make him the best three-year-old in the country. It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity. It would be a huge achievement.”

Zayat acknowledged that he could throw a curveball into the mix by entering enough horses to exclude Rachel Alexandra from the Preakness. She was not nominated to the Triple Crown and would have to be supplemented to the Preakness for $100,000, and she would have no preference over nominated horses if the race draws more entries than the maximum of 14 starters.

Zayat led all owners with 22 nominees to the Triple Crown.

“Can I theoretically fill the field out? Yes,” Zayat said. “I have enough colts that are nominated that have a legitimate shot to run. Can I get her out? Yeah, I can, but I’m not really sure that’s what I want.”

Im not really sure after he says how neat it would be to beat her...

the only person i've heard make comments about trying to keep out rachel(which pg showed above) is zayat.

There is no way he will try to keep her out. I was with him and other owners and trainers when it was announced that Quality Road would not run in the Derby, and while others appeared relieved, Zayat was legitimately disappointed. Or at least he certainly appeared to be.

I wouldn't put it past him to enter a rabbit, but I would be totally stunned if he entered any horse, including a rabbit, that would bump RA.

Then what he said to Thoroughbred Times was sequenced
to look like an intended pattern of, "Ive thought about it, and
its in the back of my mind"? (getting her out by #s)

Cause thats how it reads to me.
I would be upset with the article if I were he.
(If what you say is what he really believes)

Hard to believe horse racing does not limit the number of horses an owner can enter in one race. Then again , it's horse racing, few rules and no real structure .

LARHAGE 05-10-2009 12:36 PM

I also saw Raceday America, Zayat said the owner of MTB is planning on entering another colt and asked Zayat to enter another as well, Zayat intimated that a few "connections" have asked him to as well, including Marylou Whitney who intends to enter one as well to "help" Birdstone's interest as well as keep Borel on MTB, I didn't get the impression Zayat intended to enter another colt, and I'm sure him spilling the beans is going to go over real well with those he singled out!!! He did say there were a lot of people asking him to enter more colts.

Linny 05-10-2009 12:56 PM

He doesn't have to run others, just enter as there are no AE's. Zayat could "stuff the entry box" himself or urge others to do the same to keep RA off the list.

Indy Express

Indy Express is the horse Mark Allen plans to enter to attempt to exclude Rachel. He would be 40-1 today at Belmont in a MDN SP Wt. 0-9 last 3 beyers are 62 71 63. Allen actually had the balls to say on HRTV that the horse is alot like MTB and "he's just starting to come around." LMAO
What a Fn POS!!
Here's Hoping he gets full beer cans thrown at him while he walks his crow over.

ok-you think he might enter a rabbit, but not a rabbit that would bump her? yeah, that sentence makes sense. he said himself that he could do it, but wasn't sure if he would. he doesn't sound as sure as you do.

Zayat threatens to block RA from Preakness

Just out on HRTV - the owner of MTB is apparently threatening to work with Zayat to enter enough of his horses to keep Rachel Alexandra out of the Preakness. These are his nominees (not counting the already entered POTN):

Cairiene

D C Tapit
Eye On Jacob
Herr Mozart
Hoopoe
Horowitz
Jazzandthemagician
Just Ben
Keefer

You're like that high school dork that tries so hard to kiss the asses of the popular kids even though they never include her.

What about my statement is hard for you to comprehend? I said it would not surprise me if Zayat entered a horse to ensure a fast pace up front for RA, but it WOULD surprise me if he entered a horse who's sole intention was to keep RA out of the field. And in addition, I don't think he would enter a rabbit if that horse kept RA from making the field.

Is there something about this that you still don't inderstand?

randallscott35 05-10-2009 02:23 PM

Pretty weak....I must say I don't think its in her interests to come back in 2 weeks off that effort...but in terms of sporting its pretty weak. It isn't similar to using a rabbit to me.

NTamm1215 05-10-2009 02:28 PM

It's OK, don't worry, when he enters Z Day it'll only be because he'll ensure a fast pace, not because he'll keep Rachel out. See he just wants to improve his horse's chances, not keep one horse out.

Am I the only one who thinks that the game was better before the teal and yellow dots showed up? I mean how many mis-placed horses who you completely overpaid for can one guy have?

there is supposed to be an unspoken agreement that Rachel Alexandra would not be bumped out of the race because of what her racing in the Preakness would mean for the popularity of the sport.

Either Zayat is extremely dense, or he feels the need for the spotlight to be on him and the praise when he is eventually "merciful"

nebrady 05-10-2009 02:54 PM

Hello broadway would ensure a fast pace?

If you wanted a fast pace, should have Hello Broadway waited one more week and go out in 44. Then if Ra wins it would be quite impressive! Zayat should just shut up! This preakness has to be one of the most anticipated ones in awhile. To think last year was big brown and now we have this drama. This is what make horse racing great and I'll be cheering for Ra. I don't care who the owners are, I care about the horse and she has the chance to be something special!

I don't think Ra is the proper species to run in the Preakness.
