I Want Revenge Out Until Late Summer

I Want Revenge will be sidelined into the summer while veterinarians figure out exactly what is going on in the colt’s left front ankle. The son of Stephen Got Even was the morning line favorite to win the Kentucky Derby until being scratched Saturday morning.

On Monday, I Want Reveng will undergo an MRI exam at the Rood & Riddle Equine Clinic in Lexington in the hopes it will reveal the scope and severity of the colt’s injury.

So they already know he's going to be out until late summer BUT the vets have to figure out what is wrong with him?

I'd imagine if he was remotely sound they'd do everything possible to get him into the Preakness.

I know I would.

The ankle is probably still warm today, and he's probably still grade 1 lame on his flexion (although he was reported sound on his non-flexion walk).

He had negative rads and ultrasound, and because most minor (short term rest) things can be seen there - and were not - pretty much all that's left is things that will result in some significant time off. Have to see what they find on the MRI.

I blame the van ride from New York.

They pretty much know what's wrong with him. He's got a strain of the suspensory ligament. There is no tear. It's just a strain. It's the kind of thing where he should be fine if they just give him a little time. He'll probably need somewhere between 30-60 days. It is the kind of injury that is no big deal as long as you stop on the horse. If they went on with the horse, he would end up with a tear and his career would be over.
