Save Hollywood Park

An organization has been formed. See http://www.savehollywoodpark.com/

the best hope for hollywood park is a continued poor economy for commercial developers. it's hard to imagine the owners moving forward with redevelopement in the near term.

while i have many fond memories of the old hollywood park (a $15 seat near the finish line for the 1st breeders cup tops that list) the physical plant was allowed to deteriorate once churchill took over and it's not anything close to a nice experience visiting anymore.

my niece told me she and her husband decided they want me to take them to the track (they've never been) and I told them i wished they had mentioned it before the end of the santa anita meet. i have no intention of letting their 1st experience be the disgusting hole hollywood has become.

if the socal circut needs to shrink significantly, this track should be the one to go.

Hollywood Park is done, is southern california racing in general? The State is so against the sport and the general climate of the state is telling anyone who has money to get the heck out of dodge. The fields for the first week are beyond dreadful.

Lotta good an organized group did for Bay Meadows... these people don't want to own race tracks, they want to own LAND that can be sold at a profit. Bay Meadows is nothing but a pile of scrap at this point and if they tear down Hollywood Park, that's all it will be too.

I'm guessing Hollywood has a few more years left, unless the track is losing money it's still more profitable than scrap metal that's only worth a dollar a pound... once the economy turns Hollywood will be gone, too.

I worry about California racing in the years to come...

if hollywood park closes, which track will fill thier racing dates?

I had heard that Los Al was going to be rebuilt with a one mile course with turf
or maybe fairplex.

not that it helps but i'm sure at this point they wish they had kept the track open in san mateo.

which is why i'm not at all worried about losing the unpainted rusting grandeur that is hollypark in the next few years.

hollypark will be at risk after the build starts in your neighborhood.

It's a handy location for something like that. It's not a great area, but it's not quite as bad as it's portrayed to be. I've been to that Home Depot, and IN-N-OUT Burger behind the track. I don't see it as that bad an area. I'd say the gangs are a bit further inland (East.) There are some adjacent areas like El Segundo, Westchester, the whole South Bay(Redondo/ Manhattan/ Hermosa Beach,) Venice, M D REY, Santa Monica, West L.A. ETC. that are headquarters for corporations. The lower and mid-level employees can't afford to buy in those areas. I don't think many white couples in that situation would buy in the Inglewood area. I think Blacks, Latins, and multi-racial couples in that situation would consider buying in Inglewood if there was a gated community (or some exclusivity gadget) set-up. Don't they have some of that in back of the track already? My guess is that the organization was an effort by people living in the nicer areas I stated above. They don't want to have to constantly drive to Anita or Los Al.
