Belmont Draw Schedule

The schedule for drawing at Belmont will be slightly different than it has been at Aqueduct. First of all, this coming Friday ( the 24th ) we will be drawing the first two cards of the Belmont meet, and Saturday we will draw the card for Friday, May 1st. After that we will draw three racing days in advance, with a single draw every day. In other words, we will draw Saturday's card on Wednesday, Sunday on Thursday, the following Wednesday on Friday, Thursday on Saturday and Friday on Sunday.

Kudos to NYRA...This is alot better than gettinng Saturday's card at 2pm on Thursday.
Andy, one pet pive I have is that it takes so long for the racing office ( or whoever) to decide who is an entry. Therefore the Program numbers do not show up until a couple of days later. Hate to be an a$$, just seems like they should put the program numbers on the PP's when they post the card.

The overnights denote who is an entry, so you could take a look at those. I may be mistaken, but I think it takes a bit longer for the "final" version to come out because of the morning line.

This is a great move by NYRA and another item in a list of steps they've taken over the last six to nine months in aiding the player.

Could TRAKUS be next?

Now, that would be something of note.

Very nice.

When does this mean Sunday PP's with program #'s should be available?

Would be great to be able to print the whole weekend "package" by Friday AM.

Mainly because my home printer complately sucks... I usually print whatever is available at work Friday AM and end up handwriting the Program #'s for Sunday.

Exactly, so why cant they just go and put it on the PP's when they are posted?

Any chance of publishing scratches a wee bit earlier?

Lets not get carried away. 90 minutes before the 1st race should be plebty of time to re-handicap the card.

It's actually interesting how little people really seem to pay attention sometimes. I have no problem with this, but when someone complains, yet also hasn't been paying attention to what they are complaining about, it certainly mitigates their argument. I can't speak for other tracks, but the absolute earliest all scatch information is available to be disseminated at NYRA is just past 10:30. Since early December, we have had the scratches available on the scratch line no later than 11am, and many days up to 10 minutes earlier. There were two days in the past week or so when the scratches came on just after 11, but the days of them being consistantly later were put behind us months ago.

Late scratches are part of the game, a necessary evil for handicappers so to speak, and we are doing whatever we can to make them available as soon as possible.

Linny 04-21-2009 12:14 PM

When the chance of "off turf" exists, I assume that scratches may be late as the racing office is hoping to stay on and trying to figure out if it's possible. This may entail moving the whole card forward (as was done one day 2 weeks ago) if weather is expected late in the day. I've only rarely had trouble getting changes and no issue recently.

Andy, will the same schedule be in place at the Spa? Like everyone else I have have to 'cap well in advance (Thursday I have to complete Saturday's card) and I sure would love to have the PP's a day earlier.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-21-2009 12:17 PM

I think the Southern Cal tracks are the only ones which post early scratches the night before race day.

Some of the morning radio shows out there have also given out "stucks" or "stuck horses"

Both can be useful.

Odd random question... why does it seem there's always more scratches at NYRA than anywhere else? On a good weather day, So Cal there might be 2-3 non-AE's, KY similar, FL similar, NY averages closer to 6-8.

I meant to Quote Indian Charlie. I wasn't mad....I just think it's funny that nobody noticed that we started making sure the scratches were available as early as possible months ago.

I don't know officially but I would be shocked if we didn't stay on a 72 hour draw in Saratoga as well.
