there was an article a few weeks back that touched on some of the subjects in this article. according to the writer, it's hard to find out much because people are pretty much forbidden to talk about it, and the press if far from free like we have here. one thing that was mentioned was all the cars abandoned at the airport. people only have 30 days to find a job if they lose theirs, and of course with having debtors prison, they know they have a limited amount of time to find something-so many just hightail it out. i've been wondering if the sheikh will start cutting back on all his spending-dubai is not what it once was, and they have no oil resources...

wow...an eye opening piece of journalism... unfortunately I'm not overly surprised and certainly not at all skeptical of the veracity of the article!

A dream vacation would indeed be Dubai, I'd love to go there - just make sure you come home.

I have two friends (one American, one Brit) that lived there for 15 years or so ... you certainly have to realize that it is not the United States.

The middle east is one of the great seats of civilization. It also certainly makes one appreciate being an American (although it was just about 20 years ago when I was allowed to work certain jobs that previously only men held. But hey, they let us vote and own property now, too)

The world is getting smaller every day. I think it's important to see and try and understand it.

guess it depends on who you ask. there isn't one spot in the middle east i'd like to go. now, europe-hell yes. i want to go to ireland, england, wales and scotland.
but a more doable definite plan for us is an alaskan cruise for our 25th anniversary.

Wow! That article had changed my whole outlook on Dubai... I never knew all that was taking place over there! I do hope it comes out on a grander scale and that someone can help those workers over there....

Leaves a distasteful taste for sure.

Thanks for posting this link. I started to read it days ago but it was so long I had to save it for later perusal. Hope it ends well.
