AQU Casino Deal CAPUT

With the Ozone Park area homeowners in the throes of a SIGNIFICANT rash of FORECLOSURES, it gets even worse.

Now, they won't be able to head over to the BIG A and do some of that ALL IN action or work those arms pulling those handles. BUMMER. Might I suggest East New York, Ocean Hill or Brownsville?

I thought they planned on remodeling the 500,000 sq ft of unused space already inside

I don't see why Washington can't finance this project . It would stimulate the economy . On a more serious note the Belmont racino probably killed the Aqueduct racino . It doesn't seem that NY played fair with Del. North after they won the bid for Aq.

you got that right. the governor is a moron. Del. north gauranteed 370 mil. until the state talked about putting one in belmont. what company is going to agree to those terms and then compete with another vlt center miles away, especially when belmonts opened most of the summer? i read that now none of the casino companies want anything to do with NY and can one blame them ?

the article says the reason they are not going forward with the Aqueduct Casino is because Deleware North cannot come up with the 370 million because of the economy.

They article also stated that there will be another bidding process sometime. I dont think the Aqueduct casino is dead yet.

blaming the economy was easy and convienant. no business is going to risk that kind of money if your willing to put a competitor miles away, including creditors for del. north. the state needed to make a deal that only aqueduct would get these things and maybe give them a break on the 370 mil. now everyone gets nothing. thats just good business....lol. it might not be dead but its getting there, don't hold your breath.

It wasn't a question of DelNorth coming up with the money. They can come up with the money but couldn't pay it ALL AT ONCE by the March deadline... Unfortunately, the legislation involved here precludes the money to be paid by a specific date. In another type of business arrangement, the state might have said 1/3 by May 1, 1/3 by September 1 and 1/3 by January 1, but that can't be done. So instead, we get another delay. It's only been since 2001 that the state has been fumbling around with this... What's another 6 months?

thanks, i kind of figured that too. it makes sense. you are right this should been a done deal years ago. instead they used NYRA as a political football for the franchising and dragged that out forever. getting politicians to do the right thing and negotiate a business deal is like watching grass grow up here in saratoga when theres still snow on the ground.
