Why was Prado off his mounts today?

Arbor Day.

Prado OFF a horse is a VERY GOOD thing.

Never thought I'd see the day that someone would write something like this about Edgar but all things must pass, I guess. Seems to me there are more than a few members of the old guard getting their lunch eaten these days.

Did anyone catch the Scott Hazelton interview of Robbie todayon HRTV when he asked him about him riding Einstein?

Albarado looked like he was going to go completely off after that question and poor Hazelton was just dying, wishing he hadn't asked.

With Blue Exit breaking down in the Big Cap, it definitely was not a good day for Albarado. I wonder how Albarado lost the mount on Einstein following the Arlington Million -- he may have had a conflict on November 28 to prevent him from riding Einstein in the Clark Handicap or Pitts may have switched to Leparoux since he was red hot during the fall Churchill meet.

Julian Leparoux is definitely an up-and-coming jockey right now and should continue to pick up better mounts. Breaking away from being exclusive to Biancone may have been the best thing for his career.

Unless the jock with the pick-up mount is Elvis.

Thin Elvis or the one with the jumpsuit and sequins? That second one definitely won't be making weight. Or sleeping with Ann-Margaret.

Did you see his ride on Deputy Empress in the final race at GP? The filly broke about 8-10 lengths behind the field, then he found himself saving ground at the back of the pack. The pace was extremely fast and the filly started to launch a strong move on the far turn, saving ground every inch of the way. As the field straightened out in the stretch, I thought Prado would angle of the rail and go after the leaders. There wasn't a ton of room but it appeared to ample enough. At this point he stopped driving long enough to have another horse pull alongside and now he couldn't angle out if he wanted to. He mildly rode the filly to the wire without appearing to check or steady. Its possible something went wrong with the horse in the final 1/8th and maybe the filly was spent after getting herself back into the race after spotting the field so many lengths at the start.....but it at least looked like a questionable effort.

Disclosure: I did need that horse for the final leg of a P3 so maybe I'm biased....I'm curious to hear other's take on the ride.

I bet her today and this now makes a perfect 3 for 3 in terms of her getting into trouble. She has no idea how to get out of the gate, which is a serious issue and the race dynamics were really in her favor this afternoon. When I saw him make the decision at about the 7/16ths to take the inside route I knew trouble was soon to arrive.

She may not be very good and may be the kind of horse who finds trouble EVERY time she runs, but Edgar did her no favors today.

Just read Prado's been taken off Giant Oak and Jimmy Graham will ride. That'll make local guy's day....

I like the way you think (sometimes;) ), but really have no desire to have to deal with him. We have a good meet laid out and would rather not have Team Block deciding they want to run him here.

I think Prado got the boot because he had a prior obligation at Tampa. It's neither here nor there because he has ridden Giant Oak like crap on two occasions. Jimmy Graham is a more than worthy replacement.

I thought that Edgar elected to ride Hello Broadway instead of traveling to FG to ride Giant Oak...

"We got about what we were looking for," the trainer said. "He worked as well as you could want. We let the other horse get as far in front as we wanted, and James said 'Oak' relaxed real well behind him.

"I feel real good about the owners' decision to let James ride him this time in the Louisiana Derby. Although this will be the first time James has ridden him in a race, he's gotten to know this horse real well in the mornings, and they've always seemed to click together. Also, James knows this track very well, and you always know you're going to get 110 percent from him any time he rides any horse for you."

i think JG has worked hard with this horse in the am, and it's paying off for him now-that and the last race they had with prado up. no doubt they're also thinking it's best to go with a rider that is more familiar with the track. i'm anxious to see his next after all his problems in his last race. i want to know if he deserves a lot of the attention he's been getting.

Let's put the Prado Giant Oak thing in proper perspective. No matter who else rides GO, and Graham is certainly not one of the better riders out there, you know he'll get a better trip. Especially someone who rides at FG and knows the track a bit. He'll keep GO OUTSIDE, clear of trouble, and let him do what he does best: RUN LATE.

Prado and his agent came off as being completely unprofessional/unprepared in the Risen Star. Forget about the actual ride itself but the tactics were bush league. On a track where saving ground is NOT the typical way to go, Prado put GO INSIDE and BEHIND horses almost immediately. GO was clearly uncomfortable going into the 1st turn. And Prado kept him there for essentially the entire race --- finding trouble before the 2nd turn and again when he finally tried to take him outside in the stretch.

What a ****in joke. Did Prado/his agent prepare at all for the ride? Do either have any knowledge of FG? Did they watch any tape? Did they email the Fat Man? :rolleyes: Can't really blame BlockHEAD, as he probably figured he'd hired a competent rider/team and not novices, and, he's a trainer, after all. What does he know?

Prado is really at a point in his career where he needs to seriously consider retiring. He just never seems to make the right decision in races. This is because he's lost his nerve. He's flat out afraid. He can't ride the inside anymore and he lacks aggressiveness. Moreover, his strength seems to have diminished to bug boy/girl level.
