Philadelphia Inquirer: first no racing coverage, then no paper?

After the retirement in September of Craig Donnelly, handicapper of 37 years at the Inquirer, the paper is on the edge of insolvency. Not direct cause and effect to be sure, but I know I have less reason than ever to read that paper. I can only assume, even if the paper survives, that the Triple Crown coverage will be skeletal if not non-existent.

same thing happened to the washington post about 5-6 years ago. They used to have a line-up for the days Laurel/Pimlico card and Rosecroft, and ususally have 1 nice write up going into the weekends races, now a days you're lucky to find out who won the kentucky derby in that thing

The Inquirer's been dead for a while now, comical actually. The Daily News is a glorified sports page with good headlines. The only thing we have to look forward to is Dick Jerardi's (he also has a hell of a grip on college basketball)columns around the TC or if an area horse has a buzz around him/her. So don't hold your breath. If you enjoyed Donnelly's selections (:D ), they sell his picks/guide for $2 at the Turf Clubs/Philly Park. Chalkfest, but I wouldnt be caught dead betting that track to begin with.
