Commisioner Chris- Why enter a claiming race?

I am confused regarding the following entry:
Horse name Commissioner Chris
Entry
Activity date 01-23-2009
Track Aqueduct
Surface Inner track
Distance 1 Mile
Race number 1
Purse $23,000
Claim price $14,000
Individual claim price $14,000
Race type Claiming
Post position 3
Jockey Studart M

This horse appears to be paying its bills with good wins here and there. Why would they be putting him in such a low claiming race after recently winning? I am novice and just trying to figure things out.
Thanks John

Maybe ?

The horse is hurt?

He fits well at that level, easy check I guess and doubt they'll lose him to a claim.

This is Commissioner Chris we're talking about. Where would you put him? I can't recall if he's out of statebred conditions (doubt it), but he's a veteran cheapclaimer. He should be racing against other old cheap claimers, not allowance horses.

I agree. Tons of reasons why one would spot a horse there and they aren't necessarily all physical.

I honestly don't understand the confusion. This horse cleared his statebred N1X condition (in his 60th race) last time out by a neck with a 59 Beyer, yet an open $14,000 claimer is beneath him?

I'm guessing Doc didn't look at the Form before making his brilliant "he has to be hurt" declaration, because Commissioner Chris will be sixth or seventh choice in this race at best. It's not as if he towers over the field. He'll be a bomb in this race. If anything, Persaud is being too ambitious with this spot.

He is forth choice in a race with a lot of coupled horses. Since all of you sound more knowledgable than I, I will bail on my bet. I thought he would be the favorite and loved the 6-1 morning line. Shows you how little I know.

By saying "he'll be a bomb in the race", I assume you would not play him at 6-1. Right?

No. He's got very little chance, but it's not because he's hurt.

He definitely looks like he belongs in this race after the State bred allowance win. I would not take any short odds on him if you are going to play him. He is a closer so pay attention to how the track runs tomorrow.

The issue that comes with Commissioner Chris is that I don't think he is going to have enough pace to run at.

If he can stay a little closer to the leader, I'd say he is a nice play 4-1 to 8-1, but do not think that he is hurt in the race. Just because he won a State Bred Allowance race does not mean he can't run in a claiming race any longer. Persuad put this horse in at 10k not that long ago and he didn't win.

You make the call!

Handicapping is one thing. Tough enough game as it is. The game of claiming horses, figuring out whether or not a horse belongs, the "spot" or "drop", where he belongs when he's in someone else's barn, etc. -- all of that is a game of mental masturbation, and you can go 'round and 'round and it just keeps getting worse. When I claim horses, and I know who I am claiming from, I always know how the other guy (or gal) plays the game. Where they drop, why, when, where they protect, do they go in for the low price, and so on. And, no matter how much you know -- you just go 'round and 'round, and, it just keeps getting worse, LOL.

I am with claiming horse trainers. Guys who live and breathe this game, everyday. Same mental masturbation, over and over again. The state-bred races come up all over the board. Sometimes they are salty, sometimes not. I've seen horses leave the condition and end up all over the board. No rule there.

Some people race horses where they can win. Others don't. It's just that simple. Doesn't help with the game of mental masturbation though, LOL.

Can't converse long. Have been handed the death penalty for truthful posting and competent handicpping. No matter, you are in peril.

Many posters offered advice on the "spotting" of your horse with some responses well off the mark.

Ask yourself, Why no one mentioned the condition book? And /or, offered where they would run the horse?

At least you can now understand, you can beat a bunch of the people, a bunch of the time. Waych your back. bbb
