He stunk last season but he would have gotten a contract similar to Burnett had he been a free agent a year earlier.

Penny had a rough year last year, due mostly to injuries. But the Dodgers
didn't give him timely support either. It'll help the Sox. Giants starting staff
might be something to behold, if healthy!

Hopefully Penney can regain his form from a couple of years ago. If so, I like the signing. Not sure the Bard sigining will have much impact, if any. At least the Sox didnt drop 180 mil on Texeria.

Not a ton invested and some potential upside.

He's not much after the allstar break(even if he somehow gets well.) I think he and his mom should probably be running a shooting gallery. He doesn't throw anymore. He shot puts the ball to the plate, and follows through like it's a pitch. He doesn't shot-put it at a 45 degree angle. He shot-puts it horizontally. I don't know wtf is really wrong with him, but it's bad. If he were to get better, I would think it would take atleast until 2010.

Bard will just be backup material. Not really a player you want to handle your staff. Probably fill-in with potential on resigning Varitek, and I think that will be a mistake still.

Penny will be done by the end of May.

"I don't think the shoulder strength was quite where it needed to be yet for the work load I was doing," Penny said ( after throwing 25 pitches in the bullpen.)
