Place Pick All

Hey Guys

What's up? Long time reader, have not posted in a good while though. I have taken a little hiatus away from handicapping, but have still followed the sport thoroughly. Lately, I have been putting in small tickets for Hollywood's place pick all. How do you guys feel about this bet? Is it a sucker's bet? I have not hit one yet, but I am only putting in $16 - $32 tickets. I like the bet though because it is low risk and high reward.....

In what will be my only non sarcastic post of the day, I personally believe that this is a great bet. It's not that hard to hit and often pays much more than it really should.

I remember on the day Paradise Creek beat out Bien Bien in the Hollywood derby. I didn't play the place pick all as I never really was into those big multi race exotics, but the results made me realize that if I ever did get into those, that would be the best play.

I started the day with two wins, then my top choice ran second seven straight times, then I hit the last race. Nobody ended up going 10 for 10 in the bet, but 3 people won with 9, which paid 17k.

I'm not redboarding btw, my point in this was that I couldn't believe such a formful day, in my eyes anyways, would have paid 51k for this. Many other times I've seen it pay ridiculous amounts too.

Which reminds me of a funny story. My friend Charlie was alive going into the last leg with a single that was about 4/5. The horse had 3 in deep stretch then bobbles badly, causing the jockey to come out of the saddle.

The jock fights his way back up into the saddle without touching the ground and continues to the wire. The horse got nipped at the wire for second.

That had to be the most ridiculous beat I've ever seen.

I agree with you about the payoffs. Im a avid follower of the left coast curcuit and especially Hollywood Park. I played the place pick all on Saturday and hit 9 out of 10 and stupidly missed a 4-5 favorite in a maiden race....I think it was the 4th race on the card. Horse goes wire to wire and the thing pays $1,300. One quick point. If you go two wide in a race and they run first and second, do you have two tickets alive? I had a fight with my dad about this, I say you do.....

I'm not sure I follow your logic.

Are you suggesting that if you go 5 wide and run 1-2 you hit it five times?

I played a very small ticket at Hawthorne last week after a quick 5 minute handicap session. I singled in every race but one. I proudly went 2 for 9.

It got me thinking though. I checked the results for the last month at Hawthorne and saw the bet had only been hit 4 times. Once for $9k, once for $7k, once for $2k and another for $1k.

If you go 2 deep in all 9 races its a $512 for $1

Hawthorne is a tough track to hit this at. Too many big fields and wide open races. Hollywood is perfect, usually a few 6-7 horse fields and the horses run to form for the most part. I would not play any more than a $32 ticket myself

Only reason I played it was a few of the boys and I at the OTB were joking about it. I have no interest in playing it on a regular basis.

People can't even hit an hilarious win bet at Hawthorne, it is bad, especially now
