Cocoa Beach - Zenyatta

I wonder how possible it is that we could see these two go up against each other on all three surfaces. Cocoa Beach ran HUGE yesterday into slow fractions and ran down a grade 1 mare on the lawn(Can't believe no one has mentioned this performance) and there is no reason Zenyatta couldn't run huge on the turf also. Really good to see them returning for next year, just hope that they face each other more then once (BC Ladies Classic)

You don't see Sheriffs ship East very often though, which I would assume, is where Cocoa Beach will be.

Zenyatta is bred really well for turf. Especially on the bottom, being ou of a Kris S mare. Would be one of the few ways to increase her value is if she won a G1 on turf.

Yeah I know. I can see her making her 09' debut on the lawn but I doubt they run her on the lawn when she is in full form.

There is a good 4+ year old races for fillys on both coasts though and if both of them show up in the same race, it will be a four horse race IF.

CB was just awesome yesterday though, if you saw the race, a couple times it just looked like she was going to hang but she dropped her head and just took off, and her gallop out was almost even better then her race...

I think this wasn't your run of the mill slow paced turf race (which typically results in a wire job). While the QTR was very slow, the rest of the splits weren't. The result was that the mid pack horses (chasers/stalkers) were all run off their feet (after the initial split) and the race collapsed in the stretch.

I think Bejarano blew this race. He could've maintained the same advantage going slower (especially the 3rd split) as there was no real threat from the horses closest to him - the threat was from the closers- and had a little bit left for the finish.

Note the splits in the chart.

P.S. thanks for the opportunity to actually discuss a race.

I think I read that Cocoa wont be sent to Dubai this winter, which should make her an active horse for the 1st half next year in the States!

Are you saying that the race collapsed because 5 of the horses regressed from STR to FIN?

Looking at your chart, Visit made a hell of a close and Magicial Fantasy ran even....

Thanks in advance.

Good question.....

the_fat_man 12-01-2008 04:47 PM

These charts are just the graph of the results charts (in PP format -- length behind the leader at a split rather than the horse ahead of a given horse). The numbers on the right are: program number; gate number; position at the break.

Mike,
Thanks for asking that.......I thought I was the only one who didn't completely understand TFM's charts. Thanks Fatman for taking the time to explain it.

Actually, I've written a program that grabs the data from the result charts and puts it into graph form. All I do is set the max coordinates for the Y axis to get the best perspective of the race.

pgardn 12-01-2008 07:27 PM

Would be nice with fractions internal to those called.
Drawing those nice straight lines between 2f marks is the only way
to get it done, but not accurate. It is deceiving if you dont watch the race.

Guess you gotta play with the data given though.
