HEGARTY: TVG twists as THG & TrackNet talk

Do not miss Matt Hegarty's take on latest ADW developments...

http://www.drf.com/news/article/99904.html

If the THG (Thoroughbred Horsemen's Group) and TrackNet reach a long term accord, TVG is a chicken-in-a-pot. TrackNet must finally have gotten the green light from CDI to talk to THG after nearly a year of standoffishness by Louisville. If it comes off, the THG has proven for horsemen and owners that there was indeed strength in numbers and solidarity to be had by standing together..

Not to throw TVG under the bus, but a TrackNet-THG accord would go a long way towards solving the frequent stalemates the platforms have had the last 36 months. There is still the matter, as Hegarty touches upon, of the state statutes that inhibit equitable deal-making for the parties, but that has to be addressed seperately.

So it sounds like everything will be roses, all will be right in the sport, when TVG is gone?

I think there are a lot of people that hate on TVG (not saying you do) that will be upset when they are gone, especially those who have Direct TV.

I just saw that TVG and FG's reached an agreement that will allow them to accept wagers on races at FG.

Being a DirecTV subscriber I will have to switch to DISH once TVG is gone, actually I'm very seriously considering it now as thee isn't much content on TVG that isn't also carried by HRTV.

10,

I'm not down on TVG, and they aren't necessarily 'going anywhere'. (Though they seem likely to merge or morph into something new soon). However, they skewed the whole environment with the exclusives and the out-of-whack deals they made. Now they are all surprised that they're the goldfish out of the bowl. They built an insane TV production facility that was more appropriate for the Networks, HBO, CNN or FOX, and then cry that they have a 'higher overhead'. Whose fault is that?
