Jets sign Law

They REALLY want to win Thursday's game and feel like they can't afford any more growing pains with Lowery against Welker. Not that Law's the answer, but he's another guy they can rotate against slot receivers and tight ends.

He's still a descent 6th or 7th D-back. I also think he is D. Revis's uncle, they did play at the same high school.

Yeah, he was Hell Relle's mentor. Law had a weird quote implying that Revis was gonna change his number to accomodate Law, but apparently he was misquoted. Darrelle is way too good to be switching numbers halfway through a season to accomodate someone.

I admittedly haven't been able to watch many games, but by looking at the stat sheets, and seeing all the passing yards they've given up, combined with Lowery making so many tackles, I would suspect he's been struggling pretty badly.

No way to know what Law has left, but he should be in a position to make some plays, and experience can make up for physical limitations.

Revis struggles a little when he has to face strong WR's like T.O. or Dwayne Bowe, but against finesse guys like Lee Evans, Moss, Torry Holt, Chris Chambers, he's as good as it gets.

Lowery started the season great, but has hit a bump in his learning curve. He got called for two unnecessary penalties against St. Louis and he was benched against Buffalo the week before.

This is moreso an indictment of Justin Miller/Drew Coleman/Ahmad Carroll/Pee Wee Herman and the rest of the Jets' nickel corner merry-go-round than it is of Lowery, however. The Jets have been solid against #1 and #2 WR's, but have struggled against #3's and tight ends. That's where Law will likely be asked to help out, because unless he experiences a renaissance, he's not going to be the #2 corner.

Yeah, he's been a good special teams guy, but they don't trust him at corner at all.

There's no one worse than Drew Coleman though. Ty Law is a million years old and slower than molasses going uphill and I still would prefer him to Coleman.

Before Miller got hurt in pre-season, he was being talked up as having a great camp and the starter opposite Revis. Now, he can't even get on the field (although at least he's not inactive)??

The Jets cut him today to make room for Law. Miller was an awesome kick returner, but a perfect mediocrity at corner. When I wanted the Jets to take a corner in this year's draft, I had people argue with me that Miller was good enough to be #2. That worked out well.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Patriots pick him up.

Wow, the Jets originally cut Law because they wanted to get younger. Now the cut Miller for law, that's a little mind boggling. Supposedly, Nugent is close to coming back. I wonder if they considered cutting Feeley or maybe even putting Nugent on the IR just to open up a space. Joey (or another other Jet fan) Do you think that they gave up on Miller too soon?

Not really. I would've rather they cut Drew Coleman (I don't know what Mangini's hard-on for him is about), because Miller can at least contribute on special teams, but with Leon returning kicks now, Miller was expendable. He may turn out to be a decent corner, but in two years at the position, he was pretty mediocre.

I think Feely's performance on Sunday made the kicker decision tough. Nugent is slightly more reliable than Feely, but it's tough to cut a guy who just nailed 46, 49 and 55-yarders in succession.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Law played for the Jets in 2005 (Edwards' last horrific season). They paid him $$ with little return from a team standpoint, although he had a bunch of INTs that year. They allowed him to walk because he wanted even more money.

Justin Miller missed almost all of last season with a knee injury, and hardly made it onto the field this year.
It was his kick-off returns in 2006, and not his play at corner, that will be remembered.

Generally speaking, it's a now move. Why not, this is probably there best chance to go to (and maybe even deep into) the playoffs as there has been in a while. They have a chance to host a playoff game. Who knows about Farve's future (if he will come back next year). But you have him now and I think he still has the capability to carry a team on his back. He's the leader and has been down the road before. You don't worry about the future when you are 3-6 at this point, now they are 6-3 and trying to make the team better for the now drive. They should be applauded for this. The Jets sometimes make some very strange moves as an organization, but I think they are doing the right thing now. Why not go for it? The big signings have paid off so far and I don't think we have seen the best from Farve. The next two weeks will tell us something, but they are in the position that even if they drop them both that are still in the thick of it. I hate to admit it (as a Jet hater) but their season has a different feel to it then usual. As much as I would love to count them out, you just can't in the wide open AFC (and NFL for that matter).

If they handle the Pats on Thursday, then I'll take down my anti-excitement shields and agree (of course they'd go right back up with a blowout loss to the Titans, but I'm not getting ahead of myself). They've thrown quite a few stinkers this year, but the last two games have been near perfect. The difference has been the improved play of the offensive line. Favre hasn't been sacked the last two weeks, and TJ is running all over everyone. If that continues and the defense can keep causing turnovers, we can be pretty good. Fingers crossed for Thursday.

Law may know a few things about Castle's tendencies having seen every day in practice when Castle held a clipboard with the Pats as he threw against the first D every day. This move may help pay dividends early on. Man Coach would geld himself if he thought there was an edge to be had against BB. This may turn out to be one of the most interesting versions of Pats-Jets in a while as both seem to be improving the last couple weeks.
