Sounds like the first on Obama's list are Stem Cell research and environmental issues such as drilling in Utah

Thanks Bob. I can't review these Bush exec orders, way too much to read for me right now

Where are all the black people in the Obama circle? Is he just more comfortable with whites?

Valerie Jarrett is head of his transition team..that's about it so far. I heard Colin Powell is considering becoming Sec of Education.

Jarrett was born in Iran, I see. Let the floodgates open for all his Middle Eastern radical allies!

Nice to see she went to Northfield Mount Herman prep school, about 15 miles down the road from me

Bob..

You're from Wilbraham? You got to be kidding.. Home of Friendly's. I spent a tremendous amount of time in Springfield growing up.. My first job at 16 was with Forbes & Wallace. My dad built a lot in and around Springfield. Plus, we had season Whalers tix when the Civic Center roof went down and we had to come to games there. Remember Ciro's? Fabulous Italian joint. Ray's Grinders... Gus & Paul's..

Small world....We used to go to The Lido Restaurant all the time. My HS job was in the Civic Center Parking garage and my Dad worked at The Armory by Winchester Square before it closed down

Hartford losing the Whale to a city no bigger in size and most CERTAINLY less knowledgeable about hockey is still amongst one of the great sports travesties of all time.

I heard Bob moved out of MA because he's the only guy in New England who hates the Red Sox ;)

Obama's going to close Guantanamo; bring almost all of the prisoners up here to the U.S.,establish a new specialized court system to deal with them, but will probably be releasing some from Guantanamo back to wherever they came from.

I lived in Springfield for two years as a grad student at Springfield College. Of all the places I have lived, I can say that there has been no place quite like Springfield, MA...

They should really fund stem cell research more. I believe cancer and whatnot will be cured using this method one day...

Greenwald had an interesting column today on the Executive Orders.

http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwa.../11/lieberman/

My favorite part:
<<But promulgating new regulations for off-shore oil drilling, or stem-cell research, or aid to foreign family planning groups, are clearly within the legislative function. Urging that Obama do those things anyway because you like the outcome is no different, on the level of principle, than those who urged Bush to govern unilaterally because they liked the outcome of his decisions. Even more so, those who argue that Obama needs unconstrained executive power because of the "financial crisis" are really no different at all than those who supported the Cheney/Yoo theories of executive power on the ground of the Terrorist threat.>>

I was ecstatic over Obama's win, but that doesn't mean I want him ignoring the Legislative Branch. The Founding Fathers divided up gov't for a reason. Doesn't mean Obama will do Executive Orders like Bush did, but the piece makes for interesting reading.

geeker2 11-11-2008 03:24 PM

Interest facts ..total executive orders

Bush (g.w.)- 262
Clinton - 364
Reagan - 381
Carter - 320
FDR - 3,728

But do they still have the immortal Mass Pike hedges display for FIC. There was something very cool about seeing that driving the pike from Springfield to Boston when I went to UMASS when Eisenhower ws president.

"And the Bershire's seem dreamlike on account of that frosting......8 miles behind me and so many more to go........"

...........sorry I know it's hokey but JT put out some great music back then.

I had a roommate in college who used to produce the news for channel 10 out in Springfield in the late 70's who gave me a board job at that station on weekends and we made that drive hundreds of times over the years. Great memories of that area.
