Denis of Cork

I must have missed something on Denis, were is he? Became kinda fond for the horse over the last year.

JDank34 10-11-2008 08:52 AM

He is at Fares Farm in Lexington. He lost a bunch of weight after his spring classics campaign and is still recouping.

Coach Pants 10-11-2008 08:53 AM

He'll be back next year for more undeserved praise and admiration.

herkhorse 10-11-2008 09:44 AM

and fortunately the next snide post from the coach won't take nearly as long.

Are the questions somehow less cogent if offered in regular type? Not that this particular one could have been " less cogent. "

miraja2 10-11-2008 09:47 AM

I heard they were pointing him toward the 2010 BCC.
What do you guys think a Commentator-DoC exacta will pay in that race?
My guess is $27.80.

Danzig 10-11-2008 10:19 AM

but with casino drive in '10, making his seventh start, i think commentator would get a run for his money...

This is just plain silly on two fronts. First of all, the BC next year will be Casino Drive's fourth career start. Second, because of his breeding, he's a lock for the Dirt Marathon. Why would they go for back to back Classic wins? Yes, I'm already counting this year as a win.

If he ran to his breeding (Mineshaft), he wouldn't even show up at Santa Anita.

In the words of Jess Jackson, "Been there, done that"

I'm not even sure that we can say "he's better than smooth air"

borel sure did some nice work with this guy though. He put a couple nice works into DoC pre-derby, then he gave him a "Street Sense Jr." ride in the derby. You had to be tremendously thrilled with borel after that high quality job he did. One of the best jobs of building form on a horse that a jockey probably did for a stakes horse in 2008. Not sure why his management rewarded Borel with losing the mount?

come to think of it DoC has had kind of haphazard management whether it was his owner or the trainer...

He could still turn out to be one of those colts who improves when he gets a little stronger or gets a move-up trainer and becomes a legit grade 2 older horse.

David Carroll told me that he was furious at the management by the owner's "Racing Manager" who is a stone cold sheets guy. Carroll is a good horseman was liked where his horse was going to the Ark Derby when the owner/racing manager duo decided to call an audible and go to the Ill Derby. First it damn near cost him a berth in the race and is changed the schedule that Carroll had planned.
He may not be an all time great but Denis was a pretty nice 3yo this spring. Clearly this is not a stellar bunch, but other than that dopey jaunt to ILL, I don't think he's missed the board and he's only run with the best available horses, within the division. He's been out since the Belmont so it's unfair to bash him when so few in this crop have actly looked like monsters. The arguable leader of the bunch was live and death to beat Proudinsky last month and his works get slower as he gets to his goal.
DoC was hurt after the Belmont and has been laid up since. They are planning to bring him back at 4.
